Here you can also post any related video's of Elvis too, except impersonator video's where they imitate Elvis' voice of material he recorded.

Some 1977 TV memories

Here are a couple of TV promo spots for you to enjoy, see if they jog some memories
first is a TV promo for the double LP set "Elvis' Greatest Hits" which aired in 1977

next is another TV ad from 1977 for the double LP set "Double Dynamite"

and here is a promo spot that NBC ran for it's September 7, 1977 airing of a version of "Elvis On Tour" that was edited down to run in a one hour time slot! At least half of the film was cut!

Great collection of TV spots you have Greybeard - thanks for sharing them.

On this your first and last link both direct you to the same promo clip for EOT though, the first one isn;t Elvis:Greatest Hits" yet.

Cheers Greybeard - interesting they are promoting classic Elvis songs with 70's imagery. Do you know if the two ads were before or after August?

Ad #1 for the classic 2 disc TV set was actually put together and ran before his passing, this is a re-air done after the 8/16/77 date..

Ad #2 for "Double Dynamite" I believe was put together to cash in after August 1977. The set had been readily available in retail stores for quite some time by this point.

So even though they have two different origins these both were recorded after August 1977 probably in September as they came from the same archive tape I have the EOT ad on.

IIRC, the "Elvis On Tour" screening was preceded the week before by either "Change of Habit" or "Easy Come, Easy Go" -- I still have an audio cassette of that truncated NBC "Elvis On Tour" broadcast.

i believe you are right Doc. I think it was "Change Of Habit", I don't think "Easy Come, Easy Go" was aired on broadcast TV until quite a bit later, and never on network TV IIRC.
I actually got my earliest version from a broadcast on "Prism" a regional version of HBO. I had to travel nearly 100 miles to record it, lugging the behomoth that was my Beta along to tape the film. Very hard to get at that time. Prism is now defunct. It came out of the Philadelphia area.

I still have a videotape of that much shortened "Elvis On Tour" and if the commercials are removed it probably runs about 40 - 43 minutes in length.

Interestingly enough, and on a side note, "Elvis On Tour" was probably the first pay channel broadcast of an Elvis event.
It saw it's uncut, uninterrupted broadcast debut on the fledgling HBO network in July of 1973! I still have the very primitive guides that HBO sent out monthly showing the full months schedule of airings.

I was lucky enough to live in the test area for early HBO and had the service since around 1972, On top of a bank building in our town is a plaque that commemorates the antenna that first recieved HBO.

If there is interest I can post scans of this HBO guide.

Here you are - scans of the July 1973 HBO guide that featured "Elvis On Tour"
The guide is on simple paper and was folded up in the style of a road map (remember those??)
Unfolded it measures about 11inches x 14 inches.

Some of the other featured films were "Every Crook and Nanny" with Victor Mature / "They Only Kill Their Masters" starring James Garner and "The Culpepper Cattle Company" a western.
HBO was in it's very early stages here and probably was on air less than two years at this point.
I have several of these guides still in my collection- a very rare piece I would guess

Sorry if this should be posted elsewhere, the moderator can feel free to move this if they choose to

Just click on the link. If you have flash player installed they will open up automatically.
if not go here

Just to be sure everyone understands why I do things this way when possible, it is this.
I once posted a video of Vernon on Hee Haw over on YouTube and it got pulled, I'm guessing for copyright infringement. It was just Vernon introducing the Hee Haw Gospel Quartet and them singin Amazing Grace- but it was their call.

I don't want to do that type thing, and by posting this way we kind of keep things "in house" here at the forum.
i post so we can see this kind of material. And, as has already occured on one of my posts, somebody will no doubt copy the video. That is why I now place text on the screen. We know that someone will try to use these for their own purpose/ benefit. It's inevitable.
Also keep in mind that these are posted in greatly diminished quality. They are simply to view and enjoy.

i posted the halftime video on you tube, but I am not leaving it there for long, hence the "short time availabie" on that video. It was too long to post like these vids. Photobucket limits to 5 minutes length.

thanks
