It was one of those songs that was surely beneath Elvis , but it had something catchy about it that if a nobody did it, it could have done well.

How did Elvis' version chart in the US and UK?

There were a lot of one-hit wonders with novelty hits of this kind. We think of it as a real turkey of a song but a lot of acts hit the big time with one or two cuts of a similarly disposable quality.

Do The Clam was a very BIG hit in the Far East. A Number One in Japan. Top Ten in Hong Kong and Singapore.
