Why on earth this is not on the double DVD version of Aloha?!

After seeing this, I've wondered the very same thing.....

Even though I love the double-disc set of Aloha (and the recently purchased single-disc set) I feel that we fans got "shortchanged" once again in a lot of ways regarding this set....it could've been so much better with band member interviews and their recollections of the show.

I'm sure that years on down the road EPE will probably come out with another edition of this for us to buy because they've found more footage that wasn't able to be included on the Deluxe or recently released single-disc versions.

If they had gotten it right in the first place regarding footage and the sound I don't feel that we'd have to keep buying this stuff over and over again....

Such a shame....

It's interesting Marty Pasetta calls the guys around Elvis "goons," not once but twice in the interview. Evidently, Pasetta didn't think too highly of them.

I just wonder how true the part is about the guys taking out their guns and putting them on the table.

I mean, really, did this happen???

Personally I find it hard to believe, this sounds more like a Quentin Tarantino imagination.

I think he's embellishing. I seriously doubt he told Elvis that his existing live show was poor or that he needed to lose weight, either -- even if there was a grain of truth to both these ideas. If these comments were made, they were probably made much more sensitively than Pasetta is now claiming. He has really souped up the TRUTH with MYTH ..... (IMO).

On the other hand, the way he talks about Elvis' insularity, in terms of Parker and the MM being walls behind which Elvis hid, does conflate with many other outsiders' stories, be they people like Steve Binder and Chips Moman, who rumbled the Parker / Presley foundations more than most, or many casual associates and acquaintances who crossed paths with Elvis over the years.

Although I'd read Pasetta's comments on the weight issue before, I don't recall reading about his stage ideas and the tough resistance (typically) that Parker showed when he brought them to him. A HUGE part of the "Aloha" show is that continuous chain of audience interaction. It's a shame that Parker showboated so much, as I don't think he really meant half of what he said. Elvis should have worked with many exciting and creative producers, not the mere handful whose tenacity was the only thing that gave them the balls to defy Parker and convince Elvis he could easily do the same.

P.S. I don't blame EPE for not including "behind the scenes" material and commentaries on the existing DVD sets. It gives them something else to feed us with, and let us feed them with (i.e. $$$) later. Moreover: I'm glad they focused on making the archive material itself as good as it could be, rather than juggling too much at once. The Comeback Special and AFH "Deluxe" editions are two of the best Elvis video releases ever.

It is possible the guys picked up on Presley's apprehension about this meeting and thought such an act would make him feel more secure.

The veracity of Pasetta's comments seems certain -- at times, and especially when faced with a challenge, Elvis appreciated honesty. That's why he kicked some ass and lost weight before the broadcast.
