Re: Elvis Tribute show 1965..
Nice find. The complete show doesn't usually stay up for long, people should take a look ASAP.Nora Sivle on Tue Jan 09, 2018 3:21 pm wrote:..
I just posted this elsewhere:
Looking now, the 5-05-1965 (Wed) broadcast seems like a desperate plea.
"Elvis! Why did you leave us? Please come back, we miss you!"
In this "Shindig!" program, a "Salute to Elvis' 10th Year in Show Business," the majority of the Presley songs performed were hit singles recorded between 1954 and 1961.
That was the guy they were looking for.
Here's a run-down of the entire night:
"Shindig!"
"Salute to Elvis' 10th Year in Show Business"
ABC-TV, Wednesday, May 5, 1965
Opening Medley: Joey Cooper "Blue Suede Shoes" / Darlene Love and the Blossoms "Got A Lot O' Livin' To Do" / Glen Campbell "Big Hunk O' Love" / Wellingtons "I Need Your Love Tonight" / Sonny & Cher "I Got Stung" / Isley Brothers "Hard Headed Woman"
Isley Brothers "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck"
Sonny and Cher "(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear," "All Shook Up," "Treat Me Nice"
Glen Campbell "Trouble," "Surrender"
Ray Peterson "Can't Help Falling in Love," "It's Now or Never," "Heartbreak Hotel"
Linda Gail Lewis "Don't Be Cruel," "Crying in the Chapel"
Willy Nelson "Hound Dog"
Chambers Brothers "Jailhouse Rock"
Cher "Wooden Heart"
Jimmy Boyd "Hot Dog," "Poor Boy"
Darlene Love and the Blossoms "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck," "Shake, Rattle and Roll"
Shindogs "King Creole"
Delaney Bramlett "That's All Right"
Joey Cooper "Mean Woman Blues," "Crawfish"
Wellingtons "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck"
Maria Ghava [Shindig dancer] "Hey Memphis"
Shindig Dancers "Party"
Finale: Joey Cooper "Blue Suede Shoes" [under closing credits]

Yes, it is. Thank you and Doc. What must Elvis had think about it if he saw the show? He was in Hollywood filming Frankie and Johnny, instead performing live.

Re: Elvis Tribute show 1965..
I have almost no doubt Elvis watched the program, it aired on a Wednesday evening from 8:30pm - 9:30pm on ABC-TV. He was home at Perugia Way, and probably more than a bit curious about how he would be given tribute.jurasic1968 on Wed Jan 10, 2018 4:36 am wrote:Yes, it is. Thank you and Doc. Interestingly, two members of the Shindogs, the program's house band, were James Burton (guitar) and Glen Hardin (electric piano).

Presley should have been there! One newspaper preview noted that Elvis was "conspicuously absent":

Maybe he was afraid they's ask him to sing his new single, "Do The Clam," which had peaked at #21 on the "Hot 100" about three weeks earlier.

If "they's" had "ask him", he may well have been delighted to perform the global chart-topper.drjohncarpenter on Wed Jan 10, 2018 10:58 pm wrote: Maybe he was afraid they's ask him to sing his new single, "Do The Clam," which had peaked at #21 on the "Hot 100" about three weeks earlier.

Re: Elvis Tribute show 1965..
I did not seen this topic when it was published but yesterday, I found this video on youtube and so I wanted to share it. But FECC is already at the top, it has been already shared.
As said by Doc, James Burton was there, in this TV show, and also Glen D Hardin. In the beginning of the video, I think that we can see him from his back : Here is also a link to find information about this "Shindig musical variety series" back in 1964 and 1966 : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shindig!.
Merry Christmas to all of you, Gilles from France.

Or stood and watched with helpless hands while the heart inside you dies
So help your brother along the road no matter where you start
For the God that made you, made them too, these men with broken hearts
