My ELVIS Concerts

#1602940

Post by steve in SC »

Many of us on the board were lucky enough to see Elvis in concert during the 70's. My concert run began in April 1972 and ended just over 5 years later in June 1977. I am listing all the shows that I attended with the cd if there is one. Please list the concerts you saw and the cd. If there is good video of any of these shows please note that also. Figured we could help each other out find the matching cd/video from the shows we will never forget. Here are my shows:
SHOW CD VIDEO
April 13, 1972 Charlotte 8:30 Snippet when setting the stage in EOT
April 15, 1972 Macon 2:30 Backstage in EOT(red walls)
June 30, 1973 Atlanta 3:00 Elvis Mania
March 9, 1974 Charlotte 2:30
April 30, 1975 Atlanta 8:30 Elvis In Atlanta-FTD
July 22, 1975 Asheville 8:30 Still Crazy After all these Years
March 20 1976 Charlotte 2:30
March 20 1976 Charlotte 8:30
June 30 1976 Greensboro 8:30 It's been a Long Time Coming
Dec 30, 1 976 Atlanta 8:30 Atlanta Loves Elvis
Feb 20, 1977 Charlotte 8:30 Unchained Melody-FTD
June 1, 1977 Macon 8:30

Any addition to the above cd's or video would be greatly appreciated. Can't wait to see your lists. Thanks! :smt006

Wow. You lucky people! Can I ask a couple of questions of you Steve (and others too) -

1) is there one show that you remember as being the best of all the ones you attended, and if so why?
2) do you think having access to bootlegs of the shows you attended has enhanced or interfered with your memory of it? I ask because when I think about some of the magical gigs I have attended, I'm not sure I'd ever want to hear a recording of it. I prefer the memory!

Thanks

Awesome!! I remember my mother saying she couldn't believe she was breathing the same air as Elvis, LOL. At the time I had no idea they were filming On Tour during this tour. In Macon I will never forget 2 girls next to us standing in their chairs jumping up and down and screaming!!

Of course the first one in Charlotte. I don't want to sound silly but it was really breathtaking to watch Elvis come on stage for the first time. He looked great and sounded better. The show was fast paced, very little talking, messing with the audience etc. He was gone in a flash and like the Colonel always said left us wanting more. As far as having the cds, the show was what it was and that is good to hear again. The memories are more about going, who I was with, where we sat and the visual memories etc.

August 16, 2007 - Fed-Ex Forum - Memphis, TN - Laugh all you want, but the energy in the room that night was electric. I went to both shows and had a grand time. For someone born in 1977 this was as close to the real thing as I'd ever get, and I enjoyed every minute of it. The live musicians and the roar of the crowd was very real and it was just joyous to scream and yell like I would have had I seen the real show. This version of Elvis in Concert was presented one final time 5 years later and appears to have been retired for good now (replaced by the new symphony presentation.) I'm glad I had my chance to see it when I did. Needless to say I'm jealous of all of you that got to see the real thing!

It's 800 miles from my house to Graceland, but I'm always up for making the trip!

I've written often about my shows from the Twin Cities, MN: Nov 5, 1971, October 2 and 3, 1974, October 17, 1976 (FTD,) and a real stinker on April 30, 1977.

Nobody seems to have any audio or video from those first three shows. We have the FTD for 1976 and there have been AR's of the April 30 show. People have argued with me about the quality of the April show, saying it sounds good on the AR. I was in the 6th row and was destroyed by Elvis' lack of professionalism and effort. I was sad but I was angry too. More than 40 years ago. History now. 8)

Yes Steve your comments/insight into the 74+77 concerts gives a very much needed 'eye witness' view- its quite strange that in Photos from April 30th 77' Elvis actually looks not too bad and i always enjoyed the strange show for what it was worth- however i accept that witnessing it is different.Same with 74' with NO 'audience recordings' + just photos in one recent Joe Tunzi book and few press remarks saying his 2 shows were 'Musical' we have very little knowledge, VERY interesting that you said your 2nd show in 74 was a 'much better show'!~
the 1976 FTD show is 'passable' but pretty 'routine', but OBVIOUSLY the 1971 show was the best one!~ very lucky you saw that!~ 8)
