Cmon everybody

Post by Chucky99 »

Hello guys.
I was listening to Cmon everybody the movie version from 1964 and I think it is really rockin.I enjoy it way more than the studio version because it has a faster pacing and is more rhythmic
Which version do you enjoy more ? The studio version and the movie version and why?
Many thanks, Chucky

The movie version... The released Master seems a little bare in comparison, although I like it.

I've always liked 'C'Mon Everybody' but when I initially saw the movie version I was blown away.

It's a great little piece of film that I'm glad we have.

Time for a video.

I love the movie version: it really rocks with Elvis' voice even cracking near the end. The scene un the film is also excellent.

I had seen the movie before I got the EP. Loved the scene in the movie, a real rocker(surprisingly like the older days), and expected the record to be as exciting. it wasnt. Still above average movie song though. In contrast, the record version of If You Think I Dont Need You was a nice surprise after seeing the abbreviated movie version. These 2 songs and the title song make 3 very good, above average uptempo movie songs, which was rare for Elvis soundtracks. Whatd I Say would make 4, but its weak on record. Better in the movie. Its why , to me VLV is his best 60's soundtrack.

I prefer the movie version, because it gives us visuals to lines like "C'mon everybody and stomp your feet real loud." It's a real joy to watch, especially at the end when they fall down on the stage laughing.

I like C'mon Everybody on record, because that's what I heard long before I ever saw the Movie. But, I agree that the movie version is great! To me, I would have picked C'mon Everybody c/w Viva Las Vegas as the single back then! Viva Las Vegas has always been a fav of mine. It has always puzzled me why that one didn't get higher in the charst back then! :smt020

The sizzling interplay between Ann and Elvis is on full display in this sequence. It sums up their HUGE chemistry, and why the film is Presley's most successful of the decade. What a shame nothing similar followed.

That said, how cool might it have been had they covered Eddie Cochran's far superior "C'mon Everybody" instead? It made the top forty in January 1959.

I like both but the movie version probably tops it and because of the visuals too. I find the mono mix on the EP has more punch than the stereo one issued later as the right channel is too empty for me with the finger snaps and claps etc. When I first got the EP in '64, I thought it was a really great collection of songs and was never off my record player.

Without question Ann helped the box office for this movie. With her coming off a very successful musical & soundtrack LP, if a Viva LP were issued with her songs on it, it would likely have made the top spot. Damn the Col.

I'm jus curious, in this situation, the movie was very successful and the music, far superior than most of his other soundtracks, yet, the following EP and 45rpm single performed pretty poorly on the charts and in sales.

Why ?

The impression one gets is they were caught in the undertow of the British Invasion upon release in April-May 1964, spearheaded by the Beatles landing five singles in the top ten in the April 4, 1964 Billboard "Hot 100," #'s 1 to 5, a history-making achievement.

"Viva Las Vegas" had only just hit theaters. By summer, the film had become entrenched at the box office, but no soundtrack LP was forthcoming.

I agree. A lot had to do with timing, The Brits were ruling the airwaves and maybe thats why VLV wasnt that much of a hit. I do remember hearing it on the radio, but very little. Still other US acts had hits with decent airplay at this time most notably The 4 Seasons and The Beach Boys, so maybe with more push, it could have charted higher. Everyone I know (even non-fans) who heard the song, liked it. As for the EP, the format was practically dead by then. No surprise it wasnt a hit. Even the few Beatles EPs issued were not great sellers considering their fame at the time.

I used to love collecting EPs (not just Elvis) with their unique covers etc. In the UK, their popularity started to wane a couple of years later. There were lots of Elvis EPs in France and they often used US single sleeves for the covers. Unique to them, to name a couple of releases was Kissin Cousins, Paradise Hawaiian Style and Double Trouble.

Oh yes, I know what you mean now. It doesn't quite look natural does it - how much time was spent rehearsing that little bit with a bunch of guys he had never met before. I guess the viewer is not meant to look to deeply into these things

C'mon Everybody is a classic Presley 60's Rocker, a great track. A pity it wasn't released as a single. It surely would've been yet another global smash.

Perhaps that is overstating it just a bit.
