So, Sony decide to release this material at retail level some three years after there was a huge amount of publicity in music magazines, blogs, newspapers, and tv about the sixtieth anniversary of Elvis's first recording session.
Better late than never.
On the contrary. It would have been common sense to release such a set when they had free publicity for it. Sometimes you have to think that Sony really DON'T WANT Elvis to have a revival, as they seem to go out of their way to screw things up for him. Yes, I am pleased it is coming out now, but it IS three years too late, and the public interest isn't going to be what it was in 2014. But hey, they released the Ultimate Party Album then instead, so who cares, right?sweetangeline wrote:..and your saga continuespoormadpeter2 wrote:Hurrah!sweetangeline wrote:no details yet but it`s coming;

I`d be shocked if it didn'tJosee wrote:I guess it will be the same as the FTD release. As I own the FTD box, I will only buy this Legacy release if it includes the live version of IFTRTF.

no problem with Roustabout...but would have preferred a different love interest for Elvis...that connection just isn't thereMike Windgren wrote:C´mon Roustabout is nice!
Thanks, Sweet Angeline, that's something to look forward to.sweetangeline wrote:no details yet but it`s coming;
Ernst Jorgensen is very stubborn on not releasing it anytime soon but the coming Elvis week in Memphis, I´ll try to convince him at the "Elvis 101" & "Conversations on Elvis: In the Studio"!jerry-walker wrote:Hi Mike Windgren,
I'm also waiting for the Roustabout outtakes!!
Where did I say I didn't want it commemorated? I have said in the past that Elvis week should be "celebrated" around his birth not his death, but very little beyond that. However, I very much doubt that Elvis's 40th anniversary will draw as many column inches as the anniversary of the Sun recording in 2014 - that featured Tv documentaries, radio documentaries, and numerous magazine and newspaper articles. What's more, it was an anniversary that was about the music of Elvis, specifically the remarkable Sun recordings, and not his sad death. It would have been the right time to release this. Yes, I'm happy it's finally coming out, but that doesn't detract from the lost opportunity of three years ago.GibbersGanfa wrote:Despite your wishful thinking, it is inevitable that the 40th anniversary of Elvis' passing is going to draw plenty of "free publicity" and "public interest." I know you would rather Elvis' passing not be commemorated at all, but the fact of the matter is that it will.poormadpeter2 wrote:On the contrary. Sony and EPE know this and it's a smart strategy to deflect at least some measure of attention away from his end-of-life to the groundbreaking music made at Sun. "A Boy From Tupelo" never got in front of the general public so for all intents and purposes the last major "Sun" release was 13 years ago, and considering the gracious critical response that "Elvis at Stax" and "Way Down in the Jungle Room" received, a slimmed down, retail version of "A Boy From Tupelo" should be a home run.
Sell it now, dude. Just to be sure!Mike C wrote:I wonder if this will undercut the value of A Boy from Tupelo box. Given the size of the book, I would think not. Thoughts?
Which copy? I bought a second copy back in 2012 which remains unopened to this day. I did this just in case something ever happened to first set. I must be a crazed Elvis fan.When In Rome wrote:Sell it now, dude. Just to be sure!Mike C wrote:I wonder if this will undercut the value of A Boy from Tupelo box.
