re-release Elvis In Concert by Star/CMT. Any worth getting?
ELVIS IN CONCERT – “NO COMMENTS”
CMT/STAR PRODUCTIONS
(1 CD 6-PANEL DIGIPACK)
SOUNDBOARD RECORDING
“If You Haven’t guessed by now... it’s been 40 years!”
CMT is back with an outstanding release! It’s been 40 years since RCA released “Elvis in Concert” , still a favorite after all these years, not only for historic reasons, cause although not in good health Elvis voice was still incredible!
The producers have done a new approach on these recordings, and decided to make a more enjoyable version by cutting out all the fans comments, and edit the performances to one live concert, using 24Bit 96KHZ audio for the best possible sound. Most edits sound better than the original ones ...
Including all songs from the original double album, plus five rare multitrack bonus recordings, including a rocking “Mystery Train/Tiger Man” bringing the total to 33 tracks!
Presented in six panel digipack, with artwork matching the original release, including beautiful rare pictures. There still are lots and lots of new releases.... some should be avoided. CMT always has something special, so you are really buying new material, not available elsewhere!
“So just enjoy yourself, and leave the driving to us!”
LIMITED to 500 copies this release will be sold out soon! Be sure to order your copy now!

Finally a release of a soundboard recording [i'm getting tired of all the audience recordings]. But when I read the "producer notes" I'm scared of how the editing is done. Is this a soundboard or just a straight copy of the EIC CD from some years ago with some editing? I never did mind the fan comments on the official recording. Why even release a soundboard concert when whe already have an official CD in perfect soundquality. I will never understand the "import" world
Unfortunately it is NOT a re-release of both shows in Rapid City and South Dakota (June 19 + 21, 1977) in outstanding soundquality. The Gravel Road Music release from some years ago with The CBS Recordings is the closest we'll ever get.....Adios.

These have to be the RCA masters as the only other source we have for this audio is the CBS video tapes.
We all know that the audio is sourced from two separate shows and the original album presented the soundtrack to the telecast plus additional songs from the Rapid City & Omaha on the second disc.
Surely if the makers were going to edit the comments and re-sequence the tracks, it would have made more sense to sequence the entire album like one entire concert.
There were no 'fan's comment's' on disc two, so as I read it, save for a few quick edits on the first disc, it appears that they are issuing a straight copy of the original album (which is still in print) plus a few bonus tracks.

No, no no no! I don't need anymore releases of this performance. I have enough, and I have more than enough better from previous dates of this concert special. I wish Elvis and Colonel would never had done this....

It's fair to assume that the relevance of the chosen image is that it's a "tip o' the hat" to the original EIC cover pic. In any case, it's a cool pic.

Right... so I'm guessing this isn't a soundboard at all but an EQ'd and edited copy of the Japanese CD release (which I have)... I guess we won't know for sure until we hear a sample. Regardless, pretty sure most of us can make this on our home computers. It would have been nice if they put the Rapid City show in the proper sequence... using the Teddy Bear-Don't Be Cruel track from Omaha...dougkapp wrote: Hummmm... 24bit 96KHZ... Somewhere I read that the tapes are in bad condition. But still I am sure that FTD will release a CLASSIC ALBUM edition of ELVIS IN CONCERT. I will definitely wait for that one.

No bad condition, Felton decided to record only part of the band, as he thought the rest would be done with overdubs.A. C. van Kuijk wrote:Somewhere I read that the tapes are in bad condition. If the orchestra is missing, I don't think that's a major issue though.

It could sound almost unplugged, and with a quality sounding vocal track nicely edited it could be a good release, almost like a new recording?
The image is one thing and the human being is another. It’s very hard to live up to an image, put it that way.

No evidence has come to light to suggest that the [pared-down] orchestra was not recorded.Robert wrote:No bad condition, Felton decided to record only part of the band, as he thought the rest would be done with overdubs.A. And we know for a fact that they were recorded [live] at Rapid City at the very least, via the existing recording logs.
Of course, there was some technical issues [predominantly on Elvis' vocal mic] that plagued the Omaha show, mainly confined to the performances of "Are You Lonesome Tonight" and "Love Me". And that these issues also transferred to the multi-track tapes, as evidenced by the latter songs appearance on the This Is Elvis FTD [see YouTube link below of actual "remaster"] and missing/overlooked from the above "STAR" import CD.
