From Keith Flynn Page some notices about home recordings in 1966:

1966 - 1967

10550 Rocca Place, Bel Air, California
(Elvis with Red West, Charlie Hodge & 2 others)
Love Letters In The Sand Unreleased
Don't Forbid Me (Take 1) Unreleased
Don't Forbid Me (Take 2) Unreleased
Moody River Unreleased
Reconsider Me Unreleased

All time references are in a continuous time fashion mode (Actual length of each track is shown in brackets).
Chatter 0:52
(0:52)
Elvis, Charlie and Red talking
Love Letters In The Sand 3:30 (2:38) Elvis sings it lovely, soft and slow
Chatter 4:17 (0:47)
Don't Forbid Me 7:13 (2:56) short Take 1, then Take 2
Chatter 9:02 (1:49) figuring out chords for Moody River...Elvis, Charlie and Red talking
Moody River 11:17 (2:15) great song, Elvis does bass lines in between the lyrics, sounds awesome, Charlie and Red do backup
Chatter 14:16 (2:49) Elvis talks about the song Reconsider Me, they work on chords
Reconsider Me 17:06 (2:48) Elvis sings it perfectly, hitting very high notes, gets tickled but keeps going....

Is this the same song "Reconsider Me" that Johnny Adams had a hit with in 1969?
http://redkelly2.blogspot.no/2009/10/johnny-adams-reconsider-me-sss.html

But I guess that's improbable if the Elvis home recording in fact is from 66/67. Anyone who knows?

The released version of Dark moon is taken from an acetate source; afterwards divided in take 1 & 2. It's probably the same version as mentioned in the tracklist above.

It is a good and interesting point with the song "Reconsider me"

Maybe Keith Flynn (his site is the source) could explain this list.

Maybe this list is taken from paperwork like with 1959 homerecordings; for the 1959 homerecordings tapes are found at the time.

On other hand it's known that in Germany Charlie Hodge and Elvis rehearsed songs for the upcoming recording session in march/april 1960.
These "rehearsels" may be homerecorded but no tapes came to daylight. Some songs are known to be rehearsed like I will be home again / His hand in mine and other songs from the Golden Gate Quartet Albums from the 50's.

IIRC, this demo tape was first noted in one of the JAT "Session" books. Many such listings were copied from paperwork, not hearing an actual recording. The additional timing details indicate the possibility it does exist, but they may also derive from paperwork.

If "Reconsider Me" is the country ballad written by Margaret Lewis and Mira Smith, this would place the tape later than 1966-1967, as the first recordings appeared in 1969. It would also change the location of the recording.

Elvis actually owned a copy of the stunning hit version by Johnny Adams. It's got a bit of a "One Night" feel to it.

..

Johnny Adams, "Reconsider Me" (SSS International 770, June 7, 1969)
Billboard US Pop #28 and R&B #8 on August 2, 1969.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Adams

Billboard Aug 02 1969 p27.JPG
Billboard - August 2, 1969

However, "Moody River" was a #1 hit for Pat Boone in June 1961, which pushes the chronology back, given all the other songs there. Maybe Elvis was feeling nostalgic in the summer of 1969, as he was preparing for his return to the concert stage.

A real dream of homerecording!
Maybe its time to release a complete 60s homerecordings project with all the songs released and any unreleased. Sound is better specially on 1966/67 so will be great!

This is gotta be too detailed to be based on someones memory of a lost tape or something scribbled on a tape box.Must me a known tape that's been played .Interesting that we are getting some unreleased home recordings on the A Date With Elvis FTD and then out pops this detailed list of unreleased songs from another home recording.Hope this is signs of something later this year or next.

Me too. However, if Elvis is singing Margaret Lewis and Mira Smith's "Reconsider Me," it has to date later than 1966, since the first recordings of it appeared in 1969. And it would also change the location of the recording.

And a home recording from 1969 or 70 would simply be mind blowing.

Could they be mislabeling the song or is there another song from 66 or before called "Reconsider Me ?"

The only one I can find from the period is the 1969 single by Johnny Adams, later covered by Narvel Felts and others.

Is it possible they mislabeled "Reconsider Baby"?

This news hasn't just "popped out" - I've had this detailed information, from a private source, regarding this home recording tape, on my web site for at least three years! And the information didn't come from any of Tunzi's "Sessions" books either

FWIW, "Don't Forbid Me" as a 1966-1967 home demo has been mentioned for many years here:
http://members.tripod.com/beyondthereef__1/rumors.html

And here:
http://elvis-tapes.tripod.com/Homerecording.html

The detailed information on this home tape makes almost certain "Reconsider Me" is in the style of the hit 1969 Johnny Adams single: "Elvis sings it perfectly, hitting very high notes, gets tickled but keeps going...." So it would be great if somehow more information could be gathered about when and where the tape was made.

It cannot be from 1966-1967.

Another interesting fact about the songs on this home demo is that the B-side of "Moody River" (Dot 16209), the single by Pat Boone that I note hit #1 in June 1961, is a song by Bobby "Red" West, called "A Thousand Years."

Well it's new info to me.Cool info in fact.Detailed info like that makes one think there's some cool recordings still to be unleashed.
