Excellent news, what an amazing discovery! It would be so cool to finally get this show in good sonic quality.

This news was reported by our own General Sarnoff
on December 2nd:Hmm-- they say one of these is worth 1,000 words...http://www.elvis-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=95489
He has the audio and is currently working with it. I can affirm the quality is better than anything released from the program.
See the topic for more information and discussion.

Pardon the double-post with this info but the other topic title is not exactly informative and I missed it!

No worries, I agree that the title referred to a photo, not a rare record. But General Sarnoff
last created a topic in 2009, so I immediately clicked on it, as I knew it would be of great interest.

It's all good!
The kinescope that Presley was given in 1960 (and used in the David Wolper, Solt/Leo feature"This is Elvis") had the flagging problem. The kinescope later discovered in the Sinatra vault was a different film recording and much cleaner. However, both suffered from less-than-optimum 16mm optical tracks.
Let's hope the hi-fi acetate sees the light of day on a commercial release.

Fantastic news. I too had missed the original topic.
Now to find the original colour (?) "videotape".

Black and white low-band 2-inch quad only.

And apparently cleaned out of the ABC vault in 1975, to make room for storage of newer programs.

Still hard to believe that somebody didn't recognize the value and liberate the master tape from the dumpster!
