I cannot add anything to other comments on here but I still cannot believe I put off buying Elvis Country by the title! lol. Being from backwoods West Midlands UK and a 10 year old kid when he passed an album of country tunes did'nt appeal. "Country" was Donny and Marie Osmond show, Dolly Parton, John Denver in 1970's England

So I bought Boulevard and Today first!!! Good job no country tunes on those eh?

I was therefore a late convert to the education that is Elvis Country.

1. Elvis Country
2. TTWII
3. He Touched

It's too bad Elvis didn't come out with a good studio album in his post Aloha period.

FEIM should have been up for one. After that no album was worthy of a nomination. You see the awards show, and Stevie Woner has a ton, Eric Clapton, Ray Charles, so many artists have multiple wins. They are always mentioned. 3, none for secular music. Again, nice, but big deal, Who really knows his gospel work except his fan base? So He Touched Me wins, Who was he really competing against. If Stevie had put one out, he may have lost!
Merle Haggard, Ray Stevens, The Blackwood brothers and several others.

You have to campaign to win grammys and Colonel Parker and RCA didn't care to do that if they had Elvis would have won more.

I also think Elvis was hurt by the lack of grammy categories that they had in his lifetime.

If an album that never was counts, it would be Standing Room Only.
What a splendid album, put it into heavy rotations this weekend.

Cheers,

For me it is a toss up between That's The Way It Is and Elvis Country.

He did - it was called Today. Or Promised Land.
They were mediocre.

The singles off these albums were good. The rest is mediocre at best.

You know, what? You're right. :sosorry:
You can't ignore the facts. There is a list out there that says which albums are superb, good, at best mediocre and downright bad (in that phrasing). If you google the words along with "Elvis collectors" you will find all the facts.

It's a matter of opinion. This should hardly need saying though apparently it does.

Agreed. I forget who said it, but it's just the respective industries patting themselves on the back.

At least every Elvis Presley LP of the 1970s was good. It's just all the filler that gets in the way that people always tend to lean on and discredit his good music.

Let's see, half of the "Promised Land" LP was great, but then you throw in a song Like "Love Song of the Year" and heads start scratching.

I've said it before: there was enough good material recorded in the 70's for RCA to release 6 quality albums. It wasn't that Elvis did not record enough good material - he did. However, the record company's quality control was practically non-existent. Ultimately, a half dozen decent studio albums plus a few commendable live albums is a very good innings over a 6 year period. Yet, the whinging continues unabated. Don't like it? Simple - leave it alone!

Let the naysaying begin.

To me 6 decent studio albums are in a different league comparing to 6 quality albums. You contradict yourself.

After Elvis Country, none of Elvis albums is good from the first song to the last one. None.

That would be incredible in itself with many artists releasing one album every five years or so. And they would make a great hoopla about recording 40 songs and editing down for the one album release that sometimes would be underwhelming. Elvis did great.

Indeed. Sadly some cannot see the wood from the trees regarding this and would rather fantasize about non-existent '50's tracks, etc. rather than enjoy one of the most solid back catalogs of any recording artist from the 1970's. Personally, I prefer to live in the real world and enjoy what's available... and there's plenty of it!

Lonely Summer wrote:6 quality albums for for the years 1970-77 i'd say is very good or excellent. How many other acts could match that?

For starters, but there's many more..

Lou Reed
Shirley Bassey
Paul McCartney
Carpenters

I agree though that Presley was prolific compared to many, and people seem to sometimes forget that, whatever their opinion of the 70s albums is.
