"That's Someone You Never Forget"

Post by Juan Luis »

Elvis Presley came up with the title and idea and Red West composed the song giving rightful credit to his friend. As Ernst Jorgensen wrote that Elvis worked hard on this sincere non-commercial effort, even asking Red during the session how he liked the arrangement, to Red's thrill!

A haunting Gospel-like song that could be for Elvis' mother, but composed in a fashion that would fit any love interest as well.
Recorded in Nashville on June 25, 1961 at RCA Studio B. Steve Sholes producing credit with Bill Porter behind the console.

This song ended side two of the "Pot Luck" album, released almost a year later on June 5, 1962. It would appear as a B-side to "Long Legged Girl", in 1967.
One of my favourites songs from Elvis, during this period. "That's Someone You Never Forget". I love it!

Thanks Juan.

A really good song from that album. I love Elvis' voice and he sounds so committed. Before the long line of movie albums, Elvis gave us some great and noteworthy studio albums.

A really good song from a really good album. Pot Luck always struck me as a bit of an underrated album in the Elvis canon. It wasn't as good as Elvis Is Back, but I always enjoyed it more than Something For Everybody.

His voice was pure golden on this track.I first heard this on a Pot Luck vinyl and it became my favorite at the time and is still one of my favorites. He shined when he was singing a ballad.King of Rock for sure but stand him up against any balladeer and he can hold his own quite well.
Thanks for the great topic.

Love this song ever since i first heard it on Pot Luck (whata a great album). Elvis' voice is otherworldly on this song, beautifully haunting. 8)

I recently received another vintage copy from ebay, the sound is crystally excellent.

When I was a young kid I didn't appreciate this song. Appreciation came later.

Great song choice Juan Luis. Absolutely superb vocals from Elvis and I love also listening to Take 1 with the acoustic guitar

Can't fault Elvis' singing, but the song itself is ok, its not catchy and theres hardly a melody to it.

I'll give it 300% just for the singing.

DIdnt like it in 1962. Just too slow for a young rocker like me. But now I appreciate it. Its superbly sung, but not a stellar song. Not as good as say, Somethng Blue which kicked off the side. Weird for a B side to a movie song though. What a label RCA was!

I love it, a real beauty and a track that has a cult feel. By that I mean I could see it being used in a David Lynch film, like Orbison's In Dreams was used for Blue Velvet.

Yeah, or a modern film noir. It's quite ethereal.
