For me, it has got to be Solomon King:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtU5e6Ww66o

I love how he bends the end of ' . . . a token of tender emotion' into the beginning of ' . . . an endless pool of love'.

Me, too. But until your post, I thought he was African-American. I have no idea why!

Because you're not attuned to legendary r&b/soul musicians.

Solomon Burke

Solomon Vincent McDonald Burke . . . was an American singer who shaped the sound of rhythm and blues as one of the founding fathers of soul music in the 1960s. He has been called "a key transitional figure bridging R&B and soul", and was known for his "prodigious output."

Burke is miles better than that other Solomon. This LP is a good place to start:

Solomon Burke Rock 'N Soul (Atlantic 8096, July 11, 1964)

That is clearly where the confusion was, although Burke has never had a hit single or album in the UK.

Accused of being "a nerd in his 20s." I wish.

Think you need to read my post again.

no thanks.

That's unfortunate. It explains why some find "She Wears My Ring" inappropriate by today's sensibilities.

No one can say I didn't try. But some might say you didn't.

if the ring she wears shows the world that she belongs to him...ipso-fatso the ring he wears shows the world that he...in turn belongs to her.
it takes 2.
Find me a 50+ year old song where a male singer says he belongs to his wife...
"Don't Pull Your Love", by Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds, comes close. Is it true, by the way, the song originally was written for Elvis? It would have fit perfectly His early 70s voice.

Well, it made the top 70!

You know, I saw Solomon Burke a few years ago now in Manchester. He was the support act for Van Morrison. Or, at least he was when I bought the ticket. Anyhow, about two weeks before the show I got a phone call from the venue, advising me that the running order was being changed, and Solomon would be going on last. Now, only Van the Man could have authorised this change (he makes his own rules), and the place was sold out, so think of how many calls they had to make.

Take the "L" . . .

Heaven knows you've earned hundreds of them here through the years, under at least three different logins.

And here we are again. Back to your old ways, and your old and pointless comments about logins. Quite why you are so obsessed over people leaving and returning when it's all open and above-board, I have no idea. Desperation, I guess. Perhaps you simply can't help yourself.

Now, for the third time, I think, I remind you: You wanted us not to comment on each other's posts. You broke that again yesterday. Now, do you want that arrangement to return, or do you not?

This is your last warning. I'm not going to give you the opportunity to return to that arrangement again if you break it for a fourth time.
