My Baby Left Me
Yeah she did, but I am talking about the song. Probably the most "Sun-like" RCA recording he ever made, and along with Mystery Train, my all time favorite:

Re: My Baby Left Me
A great song that I always remember as the opening track to 'Elvis' 40 Greatest'
Here is another quality version by the very fine Imelda May.

Not a coincidence it's by the same writer (Crudup) as "That's All Right" . For it is so similar musically by another it would have been plagiarism! I love it!

The song that made me a fan at age 9.

Re: My Baby Left Me
It may be blasphemy, but I've always much preferred My Baby Left Me to That's All Right. I loved it from the first time I heard the 50s box. Those early RCA sessions were ridiculously good.

Absolutely...love it when those oldies get a fair treatment...especially in the early Vegas seasons from 1969 and 1970....

Re: My Baby Left Me
Another classic recording from 1956. It was released on single but, too bad, the other side was the hit. Personally, I love to listen to MBLM coupled with Lawdy Miss Clawdy. What an awesome bluesy pairing.

"My Baby Left Me" was a hit, it's just that "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" was a bigger hit. The rockin' B-side made #31 on Billboard's pop chart, #13 on the country chart, and #18 in Cash Box.jeanno wrote:Another classic recording from 1956. Love this song. First heard it many years ago on an old Camden lp, which I still have.

Re: My Baby Left Me
This song to me is really one of Presley's hardest hitting rock and roll songs, ever. I love that drum/bass opening, it's like an invitation to a juicy rock and roll party, like Eddie Cochran's "C'mon Everybody".
Nice and a good idea that he revisited it in 1970 and 1974, but the original recording remains unmatched like most of his original 50s and 60s masters. It has an intensity and feel the live versions lacked.

Joe Krein interview with Sherril Nielsen: "YOU KNOW YOU FORGET HOW GOOD HE REALLY WAS. I SAID MY GOODNESS. YOU KNOW WHEN YOU ARE WITH HIM YOU ARE SO WRAPPED UP DOING THE SHOW, BUT HERE NOW 20 YEARS LATER, I HEAR HIM AND REALIZE WHAT A GREAT TALENT HE WAS. HE WAS THE REAL DEAL.

It's a fave show opener for Huey Morgan from The Fun Lovin' Criminals radio slot. I've heard him kick off with this classic on several occasions.

May be the greatest B side in history. Its certainly up there. I wished he would have done this on the 68 Special. Would have been perfect.

John Fogerty and the boys certainly did this song justice:

I first heard this on the Memphis 74 live album. Thought it was good. Then a bit later heard the original studio version. Thought it was awesome.

Yes that's it. My very first Elvis record. A great introduction to Elvis as there is some great songs on that album. How could I not love this guys music after playing it. Re: My Baby Left Me
Yup. That's a stone classic rock 'n' roll LP. Notice Creedence Clearwater Revival leader John Fogerty did not change the Presley arrangement a bit. If it ain't broke ...Mister Mike wrote:John Fogerty and the boys certainly did this song justice:

And he also did justice to it by not running through it in concert. The Memphis version 74 being the best.

My first "adult" album, too, and a good example that budget Camden's didn't have to be lousy!J4el wrote:Yes that's it. My very first Elvis record.
