#1449035

Post by sweetangeline »

This 60th Anniversary 60-CD Deluxe Edition celebrates RCA Victor's signing of Elvis Presley-The King of rock 'n' roll.

Features all of the albums Elvis recorded and RCA released in his lifetime: studio, soundtrack, and live. It also includes compilations released that featured unreleased songs or songs new to the LP format.

The Album Collection represents album sales in the U.S. of 135 million! Collectively, Elvis has RIAA certified sales of singles, EPs and albums equaling 25x multi-platinum, 52x platinum and 92x gold awards given for U.S. sales alone! Estimated worldwide sales are in excess of one billion!

Highlights include: Elvis' iconic first two studio albums, Elvis Presley and Elvis released in 1956. All 17 of his film soundtrack LPs including Loving You, King Creole, G.I. Blues, Blue Hawaii and Roustabout. The legendary NBC-TV special Elvis; the 1969 American Sound sessions that spawned From Elvis In Memphis and Back In Memphis; and 1970s triumphs On Stage (1970), Elvis As Recorded Live At Madison Square Garden (1972) and Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite (1973).

Original album packaging has been painstakingly restored including gatefold/die cut sleeves, original RCA Victor inserts, stickers and more. CD labels replicate original side 1 labels.

Finally the cat's outta the bag! Thanks for posting but at that price I'm gonna pass. If I can get a copy later for half that I might pull the trigger.

I would like to see what's included on the rarities albums. Where do greats like Suspicious MInds, Kentucky Rain and all the other single cuts that didn't make it onto the original Memphis albums appear? Is it possible to release a 60 album box without being able to include the great singles from the late 60's and early 70's? Anyone?

Can't imagine that some of the hit singles will be omitted. The rarities albums will likely have a lot of FTD content, how can they not?

If it's true about deluxe edition, die cut sleeves, inserts, stickers, gatefold albums à la the Dylan Mono box, I wouldn't be too surprised if the price tag is correct...

Bol.com in The Netherlands still has it priced at euro 129, but no mention of deluxe edition.

129 Euros would be around 139 USD. I would definitely buy at that price (even though I have everything at least twice or more).

Hmm No You'll Never Walk Alone Camden, too bad. I pre-ordered it for the inserts, sleeves, original artwork and labels. Let's hope they get I Want To Be Free and a few others right this time! I am only seeking perfection this time.

Can't wait for the WWGAH V1 & 2 projects to get underway.

"New collection" does not mean new material or material only available from FTD. It simply means that each of the 3 CDs are a new compilation of material. I suspect all the "lost singles" and lifetime masters that appeared on Legendary Performer series, as well as the few songs dangling from You'll Never Walk Alone Camden etc will be round up here. So, it will be a 1/2 price variant of the CM set.

It will be fun to watch the Amazon price guarantee go in effect between now and March.

I'll wait and see what the UK price is before I make any decisions, but on the subject of the USA price I'm reminded that when the 20 disc Movie box came out that too was expensive in the States. Did the price of that one ever come down?

Me too, I'm out of it.Why does it have to be so expansive anyway. We know the trick now. Just give me the rest of Classic FTD to make it really complete.

Yes, in the USA the lowest price happened in the pre-order stage, for about two days, then it rose dramatically. I think mostly because the first pressing had some mistakes that were mostly corrected (though not completely).

I am thinking the low price in EU may be because it could be a more stripped down version, say no 300 page book or something like that.

The attraction for me is the artwork, inserts, photos etc, it certainly is not the music, as I have owned all the music since the 1970s. However, this COULD render most of my Elvis CD collection obsolete. I guess I may be selling off some stuff!

Thanks for that: Old Shep (Alternate)
Elvis Sails
Didja' Ever (take 2)

There are interviews on Legendary Perfomers I did not include. I really do not care about those nor Elvis Sails, but fair is fair.

And aren't there two different splice edits of "G,I. Blues"?

There won't be two versions. What is described isn't that deluxe, we're only talking about a few bits of cardboard. I have plenty of box sets that use gatefold sleeves, printed spines etc, and which have worked out even cheaper than this per disc.

Not on the original lp. The wrong edit was used on the special edition from the 90s.

Okay, yeah, you're right. I find it interesting that Didja Ever was replaced with a spliced intro so soon after the initial release. I wonder exactly when and why. I LIKE the emphasized tuba intro.

I hope the booklet has the most accurate sales data possible for each album. Even in A Life In Music, some of the sales references are contradictory. It would be nice to know the initial sales (while they were charting) and the ultimate sales to date.

That's about $125 too much for me especially with all those albums available on FTD Classic albums. Good if you haven't really got the stuff already, but basically, a lot of money for sleeves and a book especially when we are talking about 5" size.

Unless I'm mistaken, there are actually 62 discs listed in this 60 CD collection.
