would Elvis have sang in "we are the world". in 1985
If Elvis was still alive in 1985, i wonder if Elvis would have been asked to sing in "we are the world"?

That's a good question! I think he would have been asked, but I think the Colonel didn't allow him to do that.crazdelvisfan wrote:If Elvis was still alive in 1985, i wonder if Elvis would have been asked to sing in "we are the world"?

I think he would have, someone like Parker would have seen all the good publicity this would have garnered, you have to think Elvis would have wanted to anyway.

Had Elvis not attended. He would have been in great company as well!Greystoke wrote:It's difficult to say, firstly because Elvis would have needed an invitation. Secondly, because he so rarely collaborated with other artists given Parker's way of running his career. Good opportunities were turned down before for various reasons. But things may have been very different had Elvis been alive and well in 1985. We Are the World was very special, but there are several big names who weren't involved -- Madonna, Frank Sinatra, Prince, Sammy Davis, Jr., Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer, Patti LaBelle, Dolly Parton, Barbra Streisand, Kris Kristofferson, Brian Wilson, Tony Bennett, Rick James, James Brown, Nile Rodgers, Liza Minnelli, Johnny Cash, John Denver, Neil Diamond, etc.

I had hoped not.
What a dreadful thought.
Michael Jackson was at his peak in 1985 and there would have been a conflict of egos.
If Elvis had been in great shape in 1985 he could have saved the Philly 'live aid' show as it was no where near as good as the Wembley show.
The highlight of that day was the performance by Queen at Wembley.
One of the greatest moments in rock history.

The big thing about We are the World was that only the artists who won I believe or maybe were nominated for the AMAs that year were invited to be involved with this. As someone brought up Jackson was at his peak at this point and really so was Lionel Richie both who helped write this piece. If Elvis would have been involved with the AMAs I think he would have been involved with it as I understood.

I have heard that Elvis Presley was a more humble and modest man.Bodie wrote:I had hoped not.

Perhaps he was more modest than you think and maybe would have been flattered if he was asked.
Of course I don't see him participating because there were a lot of people and someone would've had to have been bumped for Elvis.
2. These type of things didn't seem to be Elvis' cup of tea.

He was a humble and modest man but also had a massive ego and why shouldn't he? He was Elvis.brian wrote:I have heard that Elvis Presley was a more humble and modest man.Bodie wrote:I had hoped not.

Elvis and Tom Jones were good friends but also had a clash of ego's.
I agree that i doubt Elvis would have been involved in this, especially if Parker still would have been his manager.
I don't see Elvis taken second stage to Michael Jackson in 1985.

I also don't see Elvis only singing a line or two or just singing in the chorus.
Not his thing.

Of course Elvis would have been asked, and he would have been right in there with Lionel RItchie and Stevie Wonder, arms around both, singing that memorable chorus in his unmistakeable baritone:crazdelvisfan wrote:If Elvis was still alive in 1985, i wonder if Elvis would have been asked to sing in "we are the world"?
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let's start giving
And he would have also been doing benefits for PETA, too:

If you want to know for certain whether or not Elvis would sing in We Are the World, you can't question my methods. That's the way it works. It's magic.

Hi
Imho I think Elvis would have put his own song out, which would have probably got to the No.1 position.
I dobthink he would have been asked, he was Elvis the biggest star in the world, but as I said above he'd have probably done his own thing

Elvis might have done it, but Parker would have wanted at least have of the publishing.

I think he would be like Prince. He wouldn't go but he would donate to the charity in some way.

That's hilarious... by 1977 Parker couldn't see a good opportunity for his client if it hit him square in the face.
Anyway, Parker's first question when asked if Elvis would participate would have been "How much are you gonna pay my boy?"
