It was lost, which translates to misplaced, stolen or destroyed.

Can I be the first to ask :
"Did he really record this at Sun?"

Re: Elvis, Satisfied Recording
I recently discovered that he never ever mentioned recording this and that each and every time he didn`t mention it he was dead serious so I`m more than convinced that an acetate exists and it must be out there somewhere.TheKingisthething wrote:Back then not a lot of people have heard this third record...Steve Morse wrote:Can I be the first to ask :

"Satisfied" has been a curiosity for me since I read the notes on A Legendary Performer booklet.

Nope. It's lost, as I already posted. Go read it.TheKingisthething wrote:Didn't Elvis mentioned this as his third record??Barry wrote:

But there's no doubt Presley well knew the song, as did RCA's Steve Sholes, who reviewed all the Sun reels sent by Sam Phillips in late 1955, and made notes, as seen above. Elvis very likely first heard "Satisfied" on the radio in 1951-52. Martha Carson's original was ubiquitous, though Johnnie Ray's jaunty cover must have had airplay, too.
Martha Carson and the Gospel Singers, "Satisfied" (Capitol 1900, December 1951)
Presley probably enjoyed all of Carson's songs when they toured together in May 1955.

my third record comment of course is meant as a parody of the now already legendary Tiger Man thread...drjohncarpenter wrote:Nope. It's lost, as I already posted. Go read it.TheKingisthething wrote:Didn't Elvis mentioned this as his third record??Barry wrote:

Re: Elvis, Satisfied Recording
The bottom line is, these tracks have never surfaced, nor have the following.
What really burns my ass is we know for a fact that he did record outtakes such as the sessions for the Christmas tracks, the Hound Dog Sessions, etc, etc,
and these have all been lost or stolen and forgotten about in some attic, etc, etc,

I'll bet at least some tapes still exist. But we may never hear them in our lifetime.Barry wrote:The bottom line is, these tracks have never surfaced, nor have the following.

Doc, how foolish is that, and what does it prove if they exist to hold them back?drjohncarpenter wrote:I'll bet at least some tapes still exist. But we may never heard them in our lifetime.Barry wrote:The bottom line is, these tracks have never surfaced, nor have the following.

They lose their value once they are licensed for release to the public. Some prize the value over the sharing with other fans.Barry wrote:Doc, how foolish is that, and what does it prove if they exist to hold them back?drjohncarpenter wrote:I'll bet at least some tapes still exist. What does it matter what the value is under that assumption?drjohncarpenter wrote:They lose their value once they are licensed for release to the public. Um, because that perceived value tells the owner to keep the item under lock and key.Barry wrote:What does it matter what the value is under that assumption?drjohncarpenter wrote:They lose their value once they are licensed for release to the public. It's been suggested that the "Satisfied" tape may not have been destroyed at all and stil exists.

Hmm, the perceived value means nothing, if they are going to keep them under lock and key. A pointless exercise if they are not willing to try and work a deal outdrjohncarpenter wrote:Um, because that perceived value tells the owner to keep the item under lock and key.Barry wrote:What does it matter what the value is under that assumption?drjohncarpenter wrote:They lose their value once they are licensed for release to the public. with the folks at Sony, oh but wait, would the tapes not be owned by RCA, BMG, Sony?

Re: Elvis, Satisfied Recording
To me it looks as if Elvis just tried out "Satisfied" during the recording of "I'll Never Let You Go (Little Darlin')".
Check the tape/box legend.
Maybe he just played around for a minute or so in between takes of "I'll Never Let You Go...".
Don't we have outtakes available of that particular Sun recording?
If so, it would make sense if "Satisfied" would turn up somehow.
Or am I just completely wrong in my thinking?

Re: Elvis, Satisfied Recording
In the 80's and 90's there was a rumour going round that Joan Deary had a tape copy of this recording in her RCA office . Some people were of the opinion that she was going to put it on an album in the Legendary Performer series . It was not to be , and the existence of the tape has never been verified.
I think Doc hit the spot , when he said that there probably are collectors who do not want to share their treasures with others , because it means so much to them to have something unique for themselves .
There is much talk today about FTD scraping the barrel . Maybe so , but I think they will give us what they are able to get hold of in the future .
Smile , folks , don't be so negative and pessimistc about Elvis ' musical legacy . Hopefully ,there are still goodies to look forward to in the nearest months .
