'Elvis Today' is next Legacy release

#1366828

Post by Steve Morse »

Apologies if someone else has posted this, or if it's old news, but this is reported in the new ETMAHM magazine :

"The next RCA/Legacy release will be 'Elvis Today', featuring the original 1975 album plus undubbed session mixes of its ten tracks. It'll be paired with the 'composite' concert pieced together from recordings made on tour in May and June 1975 and first issued as part of the Elvis Aron Presley 8xLP box-set".

Let's hope the audio is upgraded from the Ftd release ....

I really dont see the point of including a soundboard concert on a Legacy release.......
The general public must be thinking :wtf: when hearing the poor sounding disc 2 :(

That said,I will get this one IF sound is improved on disc1 as Today is one of my favorite albums.

I think the EAP soundboard is actually the best one we have, and I find it amazing how they matched the Nay recordings to the June ones considering how thin most of the other available soundboards are. Perhaps either the genius who rooted the How Great Thou Art Sessions series worked on the latter June 75 soundboards or the current owners downgraded their sound simply to make room for better, fuller sounding future releases.
It's so weird how good and full that EAP soundboard sounds, for a soundboard recording, when no others from the same weeks don't.

In other words lets hope Lene Reidel doesn't have a hand at mastering this one.

And they should put on the 2nd disc March 22 1975 Midnight concert from LV. That would be worthy and the time period of making album is right.
Elvis sings 3 songs from the album : "And I Love You So:, "Green Green Grass Of Home" and "Fairytale". All fantastic versions.
They could also add live version of "T-R-O-U-B-L-E" from tour later that year. MISSED OPPORTUNITY.

The March 22 1975 show is plagued by distortion and slight mic overload. Since eap has been out of print for quite a few years it's a good decision to re-release this..

...exactly, some (not all) of the Elvis experts have made it very clear what and what isn't worthy of an Elvis legacy release and that`s fine but that doesn't mean it isn't going to happen...I have been saying for years Sony will continue to find new ways to present his catalog to not only Elvis fans but the general public at large whether we like the idea or not, I`ll buy it myself and the others who don`t think it`s worthy of a legacy release will probably purchase it too and then "cut it up" but we will never know  the Elvis world is a funny place sometimes...oh by the way there is a lot more to come yet from Sony

Some will as apart from the usual greatest hits packages not much "new" are offered for general public.
Seems only hardcore fans knows about FTD.
In my local record store....the only one left......they had 6 copies of TTWII-2 disc last august, when I visited 2 weeks later they were all gone.Somebody is buying the Legacy releases.
TTWII was a better album than Today but still.....

...on a related note; I FORGOT TO REMEMBER TO FORGET has a nice anniversary this year as well which leads into Elvis` signing with RCA and then the re-issue of IFTRTF hitting #1 on the country charts in early `56..interesting info don`t ya think

My guess is that FTD will release the 16 track "Sun Collection' as a 'classic album' and the live IFTRTF will be a 'bonus' track......

I hope for the complete same material found on BFT along with IFTRTF released as a Legacy release.

The concert sounds shaky, but a proper remaster from the mother tape would help a lot. If they can release soundboard recording from May/June then they can release this very good concert IMO.

A disc 2 with all of the available live versions or rehearsal tapes of Today material and tracks he was including in the live set at the time but not released as studio versions might be nice
