Morrissey Admired Elvis.
Morrissey of the British rock group The Smiths was also a fan of our man....
In 1987 they released a single called "Shoplifters Of The World Unite"/"Half A Person" for this single they chose to use the very first publicity photo of a 19 yr old Elvis taken by Memphis Press Simitar photographer James R. Reid in 1954.
Personally, I don't particularly care for his music, but I did buy this single (i'm a sure lot of other Elvis fans did too) at the time it came out, purely for the photo.
Morrissey is considered one of the greatest lyricists (a true poet) of the music biz, alongside the likes of Dylan and Hank Williams etc. He did later cover "His Lastest Flame" as a solo artist. He grew up admiring the 50's - he also admired the great James Dean.

Re: Morrissey Admired Elvis.
The Smiths covered His Latest Flame on their live LP "Rank".
Twas performed in a medley with Rusholme Ruffians.

Re: Morrissey Admired Elvis.
Huge Smiths fan here...I've read that Moz admired Elvis' celebrity and image more than he admired his music, and that it was Marr who came up with Rusholme Ruffians. That having been said, I'm convinced that Moz got "You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby" from "Your Time Hasn't Come Yet, Baby," the same way he took the great Sandie Shaw's "Heaven Knows I'm Missing Him Now" and turned it into "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now."

Re: Morrissey Admired Elvis.
I remember that single back then only because of the cover, but to be honest, its mid '80s music like this (reminds me of drab stuff like Duran Duran and that New Romantic movement) that continued to spur my interest in Elvis (all eras) and discover '50s and English 1970s/1980s neo-rockabilly bands like The Meteors & Guana Batz, Crazy Cavan & The Rhythm Rockers and Restless, plus the only original (and let's be frank here: how can you be 'original' and follow them, or even be American and call yourself a ....) 'punk band' the Sex Pistols.
In saying that, let me say this (lol) its nice to read posts where we learn of EP's influences around the world.

Re: Morrissey Admired Elvis.
The other UK EP is Love Me Tender...Pink&Black wrote:In Morrissey's autobiography there's a cool picture of his dad with Elvis' first album, the Christmas album (UK cover of course) and two singles or EPs one of which I think is the EP Elvis Presley and the Jordanaires (I Need You So, Have I Told you Lately That I Love You, Blueberry Hill, Don't Leave me Now).
The picture in the book is not too clear nor is it printed on high quality paper so this is the best I could do. Underneath it says: "Dad, at Queen's Square with historical records for historical record."
