Why did Elvis introduce Glen as "Glen D. Hardin"?
Always wondered why Elvis used Glen's middle initial. Anyone know?

Maybe to avoid mispronouncing his surname in a somewhat naughty way?lovin' EP wrote:Always wondered why Elvis used Glen's middle initial. Anyone know?

because that was the way he was referred to throughout his career. Check out the label of this single from 1965 where he has writer's credit.lovin' EP wrote:Always wondered why Elvis used Glen's middle initial. Anyone know?

I had no idea Glen wrote that song. I must have played it 5000 times on the radio.

Yeah, I was surprised and interested in Glen's writing history. I guess we can just assume that Glen wanted the middle initial included, and it was nice of Elvis to respect that. Thanks for the responses.

Everyone I spoke to referred to him simply as Glen D. Usually sounded like one word ("Glendee").

No, I think it's because of the naughty joke potential.lovin' EP wrote:Yeah, I was surprised and interested in Glen's writing history. I guess we can just assume that Glen wanted the middle initial included, and it was nice of Elvis to respect that. Thanks for the responses.

Re: Why did Elvis introduce Glen as "Glen D. Hardin"?
"Because that's his name" is a sarcastic remark, and totally uncalled for. You know what I meant. He doesn't use initials when introducing the other band members, and I was simply wondering why he used Glen's middle initial. I think some of the replies answered my question. Please don't forget there are people behind these computers, and you should be respectful to everyone.

Re: Why did Elvis introduce Glen as "Glen D. Hardin"?
This is how Glen D. Hardin remembers...
“He was always coming up with something silly,” says Hardin. “Once he introduced me and said, ‘You know, somebody told me the other day that the D in your middle name stands for Dolores. Is that true?’ I said, ‘Why, hell no!’ He said, ‘I think it is. I was told by somebody who ought to know.’ He just went on and left it at that."
