My ELVIS 70' 8 mm film transfered on a Retro 8 & More

Sat Jan 18, 2014 3:52 pm

Recently I bought a machine that can transfer 8mm film to my pc. Anyone who have used a Retro 8 before? I think the transfer is ok, but it has some adjustments to make it better, I think my first transfer got a little to dark as you can see on my frames. Sorry for only posting links, but I don`t understand how to make the photo posting works.

The Houston film was filmed by super fan Maria Luisa Davies from England, she also wrote some booklets from his experience seeing Elvis shows 1969, 1970 and 1971, if anyone have these please let me know.

That's neat. Thanks for putting them up - the Houston shows from 1970 were dynamite. It's always cool to see even little bits of footage from any of the shows. Keith Flynn also has some neat footage from one of the shows on his site.

Does this one (below) come with a date?
It's been said Elvis wore this suit combination during the Aug/Sept Vegas closing show and that looks a bit like Vegas...

Rex Martin once used a screen capture (pretty similar to your avatar) to one of his 'articles' over at his forum I believe, that came from the Maria L. film and I believe he even posted pretty detailed writings from Maria's notes about the shows. Are you referring to these, or some published booklets?
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Yes it is exactly the same footage, I believe I have the original 8mm reel once owned by Maria. I think Rex made copies with sound but there is no sound on my reel

Are you planning to let anyone see what you have acquired, by way of DVD release / trading with other collectors etc?

Retro 8 is a machine that can transfer Super 8 to digital video but only the image not the sound if the movie is with sound.

There are 2 methods: Realtime or frame by frame scanning

Retro 8 scan the movie frame by frame.

Of course I am interested in trading, if it will be a DVD release I have no idea I will not do anything illegal.

I have a few more here:

Great screnshots noone, thanks for sharing them!

I have some VHS copies of Houston and Las Vegas footages but in bad quality :-( and also the 6 houston shows on tape but them too in poor quality.

I read a lot of stories by Maria and Luisa Daives, as far as I remember they were U.K. young sisters in the 70's and they had the fortune to can go in USA a couple of times to see Elvis live in concert in Vegas in february 1970 and than to mouve to houston to see the 6 shows that Elvis performed there.

Do you know them personally? are they still around somewhere?

thanks again and hope to can see some other screenshots :-)

It was Maria Luisa Davis and her sister Gladys from Liverpool, they saw Elvis in August 1969 - February 1970 LV and Houston, they filmed and taped the Huston shows. They may also see the opening shows in august 1970 (according to some talk on an audio reel by Virginia Coons) but I am not sure. They was back in August 1971 and December 1975. They might see more but that is the only shows I know about. Sadly I think they has passed away, Gladys about 12 years ago, and I am not 100 % sure about Maria but I bought some of her collection on eBay in 2011, not from any relatives so my guess is that it was sold and then resold. Sadly I don`t know them.

I also have films that they filmed in 1969-70 and 1971 during their holidays in the USA (no Elvis) some outside Las Vegas, Graceland and the grave of Elvis mother Gladys. These I have not transferred yet, but are you interested in see frames of them also let me know...it will take some days though.

Thanks a lot noone, yes correct, they were Maria Luisa davies and her sister Gladys. Sorry for them, if they died, they were still pretty young I suppose. I remember to have read some of their sotries in some old newsletters.

About sharing of Elvis films (screenshots from original reels),.......you should catch the thread that existed in here until few days ago where a generous person shared some of his incredible collection. Some unseen Elvis footages he have in his collection. He shared some animated gifs showing to us some of the footages he have. Now all is over for bad arguments he had with some of the members of the forum; the thread was deleted and he definitely disappeared. Would be nice if you could interact with him about Elvis footages since you have something original too. But now is too late I suppose. :(
