So impressed I wish it were longer.

See, a three-piece band was all Elvis ever needed to win an audience. The rest was his enormous talent.

16mm, hand-held, deep focus.

Too bad Elvis, Scotty and Bill's faces are washed out by the bright light.

At first glance I thought that was Gladys sitting down front, but on second viewing, nope.

At 10:29, DJ, and possibly Scotty, can be seen next to the car on the right.

Yes, that's DJ on the right. Notice at same time on the left a guy is giving the finger(s) to the camera. :D

Thanks Brian. I have just downloaded this onto a DVD-CD before it is gone, like so many other rare Elvis videos do.

I wonder what song Elvis is singing, have you or anyone here figured it out yet. :?:

Maybe the song is "Baby Let's Play House"

This is a thing of great beauty.

And it is also exactly the sort of footage the long-dreamed-of Elvis Anthology should contain.

I'd like to see some more please.

I'm pretty sure there's a lot more footage like this from the 50's...local TV stations, i'm sure were on hand when he arrived and fimed him for their news bulletins whenever he arrived in their cities. Particularly from March onwards when things really started to take off for him.

Ultra fantastic!!! And at one point DJ Fontana is really banging the drums, so he must have been singing a very fast song. What could it have been, I wonder...

Too bad no audio on film was recorded on any show from the 50s except tupelo.Didnt cameras back then have the capability to record audio too?

Gotta love the perfectly styled DA we see, in the close up of the back of his head.

This is quite a find, and a wonderful way to start the year.

Shame The Colonel was booking him in secondary markets, though...

No.

You'd need a crew consisting of the cameraman and two soundmen. One to operate a microphone on a boom pole, and the other to push record and monitor the levels. One of the soundmen would also snap the clapper board in front of the camera to sync the sound to the image.

Unless, of course, they were plugging their portable reel-to-reel into the soundboard or the house's PA system. They'd still have use the clapper.

Thanks. Now THIS is worth posting in "All Elvis"!

Love the other WKY-TV footage, including a look outside and in of Rev. Billy Graham's Crusade Office in "Greater Oklahoma City," on 519 N. Broadway Avenue.

Here is a link to exactly when the Elvis segment from Thursday, April 19, 1956 begins:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0yIxFMu9gY&t=08m35s

Elvis was booked for one performance at 7:30pm, but he sold out the house (5,600 tickets) so a 9:30pm show was added. The film has to be from the late set given the police car getaway shots, and the fact that Presley's Martin D-28 acoustic clearly has brand-new strings. A review the next day said Elvis broke them while playing "I Got A Woman," and that must have happened during the first show.

Also note the the footage is not in chronological order. Wish we could hear the music, regardless.

Here are some screen shots (in likely chronological order):

The film made for WKY-TV's April 1956 report was likely going to have the anchor or reporter speaking on top of it, no need to record with audio, which was more costly and cumbersome. In the same manner, newsreel footage seldom utilized audio because a narrative was normally used for the completed product in theaters. For example, the Tupelo '56 newsreel footage did not have audio, everything heard on the known DVDs was 100% sourced from RCA's Elvis: A Golden Celebration.

The segment at 9:46-10:04 is definitely from "I Got A Woman" [you can clearly make out the "Oh yeah, we'll shes my baby..." line].
Plus, his movements are very similar to what he does on the Dorsey show performance of the same song.
Perhaps someone can sync this section up?

P.S. You can see his guitar string break at around the 10:00 mark.
