Elvis fall 1974 tour

Why was Elvis so manic during this tour mood up and down talking more than singing?

May have been something he ingested.

Elvis was really, really angry that ABC-TV had cancelled "Chopper One" that summer.

Cocaine probably played an important role.

Not as much as the cancellation of "Chopper One."

I asked Marty Lacker about His behaviour ( september/october shows, Maryland)a few years ago. Here´s what he had to say:
He took more than Uppers at that time. He took sleeping and pain pills. That stuff will make you slur your words because they hadnt worn off by then. I speak from personal experience.

Did he ever mention "Chopper One"?

My friend said Elvis liked to stay f.uped all the time.

I was once "f.uped up."

I wish I was old enough to have been f.uped up when "Chopper One" was on.

I LOVED Chopper One! Liked The Rookies, too.

Some of the hotel lackees were spreading bad rumors about him being strung out on heroin...it kinda pissed him off.

By this time Elvis had earned his 8th degree black belt, and

Ed Parker taught him how to remove the tongue of his victim

while at the same time applying pressure to the scrotem.

Elvis was on a rampage and no one was going to get in his way.

Not even Neil Young.

My dad got so mad thy cancelled Chopper One that he shot the tv screen out. That was the one and only time I thought my dad was cool as Elvis.

IIRC, an episode of "Chopper One" dealt with "the scrotem."

Never missed an episode of "Chopper One...." I recall being angry in school and my mood being up-and-down during this same September/October 1974 time frame! Never made the connection..., until now!

Nope, and not even his good friend Paul Anka.

Obviously this was due to his medical state. Reminds me of some show from late 1970 on tour where he talked alot about out selling every artist the beatles tom jones etc.

Perhaps, but the demise of ABC's "Chopper One" cannot be discounted. Elvis loved his TV shows.

Amazingly, it's not yet on DVD. But YouTube offers some of the glory:

Here is a toy Red West bought Elvis after the cancellation of Chopper One in '74 to help with his withdrawals and behavior patterns that so affected Elvis once the show was off the air.

Unfortunately Charlie Hodge used it with one of his G.I. Joes that Elvis gave him for his birthday, and broke the damn thing, which in turn, left Elvis no choice but to acquire a major addiction to Demerol.

WAY TO GO CHARLIE!!! :facep:
