Slower Hits ?
Thu Jan 31, 2013 5:32 pm
I was giving CD1 of the CM SET a spin and got to I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone (slow version), man i forgot how good that is, got me thinking i wish he had done more slower alternates, Hound Dog perhaps like ETTA JAMES's version ? Also loved how Milkcow Blues Boogie was sounding before he got real gone, which other hits would u have loved a slower version of ?

Etta James' version of "Hound Dog," cut about 12 years ago, moves the tempo to a more bluesy place, and definitely draws upon Big Mama Thornton's original in her vocal.
It's great, though, and it's a shame Elvis didn't give an arrangement like this a shot in the '70s instead of running through it in 54 seconds. Imagine if Tony Joe White had helped out Elvis with such ideas.
