I assume he did it regularly in concerts in 1956 and/or 1957.

"I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" was a major hit -- #1 on the Billboard Top Sellers Chart -- and is known in concert set lists from 1956 and 1957. Outside of the Berle (June 5) and Allen (July 1) TV performances in 1956, we also have a live version filmed and taped in Tupelo on September 26.

Elvis is also heard fooling around with the song at a May 1971 Nashville studio date.

A little off topic.... the video that Doc posted of the Tupelo set.

Does anyone know where and when it surfaced? Was it restored? Was the audio recorded or added?

In addition to his performances of "I want you, I need you, I love you" on television ( where, as per TRENDEX, the precursor of Nielsen,
he was seen by 22, then 40 million people during his appearances at both the NBC/TV's Milton Berle Show and the ABC TV Steve Allen Show, respectively, Elvis sang it at least a total of sixteen times, , three of which during shows held at large outdoor venues and/or stadiums, and to a total cumulative audience nearing 100,000 people. The most he sang it, in one day, was in Atlanta, where he sang it three times on June 22, 1956. The biggest audience that saw him sing this song live, was at Russwood Park stadium, in Memphis, where 14,000 were present. Incidentally, Russwood Park and the Pan Pacific Auditorium in Los Angeles have one BIG thing in common. Yes, he gave a sort of incendiary performance in both of these places, but the trivia question is, what is the other BIG THING they have in common, other than Elvis played there?

Here's the list

1..... June 7 1956 Municipal Auditorium Long Beach CA (7:30 PM)
2.... June 8 1956 Shrine Auditorium Los Angeles CA (7:30 PM)
3.... June 9 1956 State Fairgrounds Grandstand Phoenix AZ (8:30 PM)
4..... June 22 1956 Paramount Theater Atlanta GA (2:00 PM)
5 .....June 22 1956 Paramount Theater Atlanta GA (5:50 PM)
6 .....June 22 1956 Paramount Theater Atlanta GA (8:00 PM)
7..... June 24 1956 Paramount Theater Atlanta GA (8:30 PM)
8...... June 25 1956 Sports Arena Savannah GA (9:30 PM) 3.5
9...... June 26 1956 Coliseum Charlotte NC (8:30 PM)
10..... June 27 1956 Bell Memorial Auditorium Augusta GA (8:30 PM)
11...... June 30 1956 Shrine Mosque Theater Richmond VA (5:00 PM)
12 .......June 30 1956 Shrine Mosque Theater Richmond VA (8:00 PM)
13.......July 4 1956 Russwood Park Memphis TN (8:00 PM)
14...... August 12 1956 Municipal Auditorium New Orleans LA (4:00 PM)
15..... September 26 1956 Tupelo Fairgrounds Tupelo MS (2:30 PM)
16...... September 1, 1957 Lincoln Bowl Tacoma WA (2:00 PM)

You are misinterpreting the (unsourced) online data you posted. That list is of known performances from fan or media reports, and concert or TV appearances.

Elvis very likely gave it more than 16 renditions in 1956-57.

And you are answering a post that was not directed at you, and worst of all, with zero sources to back it up. At least all I needed to do to correct the sentence was to add two words, and these are "at" and "least" Also, if you know so much about our subject matter here, how come you are not able to answer that simplest of trivia questions, the one about Russwood Park and the Pan Pacific Auditoruim. Even the most inept scholar will know it. Better still, just don't answer it (LOL)

Indeed it was.

His posts are often inaccurate or hyperbolic, and he does not do well when such things are gently pointed out.
