Okay Errol, I'm compelled to ask... How is it that
Raised On Rock is one of your favorite Elvis albums?
I would ask about Promised Land and Moody Blue, but let's just touch on Raised On Rock.

I'm surprised no one has listed
ELVIS (NBC-TV Special) >>
http://www.elvisrecords.us/lpm-4088-elvis/... of course Raised On Rock is better.

I like most of the material for the TV Special, but how it was cut up and edited for TV does not make the best album, though it worked for TV. It could have been three separate albums.
1. The production recordings.
2. The sitdown recordings.
3. The standup recordings.
They could have edited the best from each to make 3 killer albums. But the Box set is certainly a contender for anyone's list!

Those are pretty much my favorites, too, skatterbrane. Except I'd add
The Sun Sessions and
That's The Way It Is and I'd change the order of the first three:
1.
Back In Memphis (I'm probably the only person in the world who rates this higher than From
Elvis In Memphis! This is my all-time favorite Elvis album.)
2.
Elvis Is Back3.
From Elvis In MemphisI realize that
That's The Way It Is can't really compare to the quality of Elvis' 1969 material but I'm still quite fond of that album. Even better would be the undubbed version. I could listen to
Mary In The Morning (Undubbed, Take 4) a thousand times!

Don't make things so complicated, skatterbrane. Surely we're talking about the original albums here.
35+ years after Elvis' passing, almost all of his albums have been reworked into elaborate sets. During Elvis' lifetime nobody was thinking that way.
There's no way on God's green earth that RCA should've issued three separate albums in 1968 covering all the material from the month of June.
The album that was issued in '68 covered the bases for what was seen on television. Mission accomplished.

I could never count a greatest hits or Golden records as a favorite album. They were not 'real' albums as a recording process of an album being made, just comps. So mine are
Elvis (1956)
Elvis Is Back
From Elvis In Memphis
Elvis Country
Elvis TV Special - not a real album in that sense but very historic and a sign Elvis was back again

1. Blue Hawaii
2. Pot Luck
3. How Great Thou Art
4. Elvis Recorded At MSG
5. NBC T.V. Special
