We have some "Early Morning Rain" here as I read this. It's about 60 degrees outside and it is exactly how I've always imagined it to be in the song. There is an aching in my heart today knowing that John will no longer be with us on this earth.
But....John is jammin' with his boss again today.

Another sad day in the Elvis world Rest In Peace John. My thoughts are with Johns family at this sad time.I'm just glad John is no longer in any pain.

Saw this on my FB page earlier from a friend. It's a sad, sad day in the Elvis world. There's two people from the band that I still want to meet before they leave this world: James Burton & Ronnie Tutt. I pray that God gives John's family comfort during this time.

I believe John and James were the only two musicians to not miss one of Elvis' stage shows in the 70's... sadly John was never a part of the Elvis in Concert series of shows from 1997 on even though he was with Elvis through everyone of his live shows... I'm still upset over John's passing today... he will be missed.

There's a scene in the original TTWII involving John Wilkinson that I've always liked. Elvis is performing How The Web Was Woven at the piano. As Elvis finishes there's a closeup of John watching Elvis and listening intently. At the conclusion of the performance John simply smiles. But it's clear from John's smile that he enjoyed Elvis' performance. I also enjoy John's tasteful Travis picking on the live versions of Early Morning Rain. RIP

In John Wilkinson's case 'hospice' care meant that he was sent home (according to elvisjock's thread in the Off Topic section) -
John Wilkinson in Hospice Care by elvisjock » Wed Jan 02, 2013 12:39 pm Various sources are reporting that John was sent home, to hospice care, after a recent hospitalization. He's been chronically ill for some time.
Most people would rather pass away at home (if possible) than at a facility. My sister-in-law passed away at age 39 due to ovarian cancer. She was sent home from the hospital to live out her last weeks in December of 2000. She died in January 2001. I don't think my wife has ever fully recovered emotionally from losing her sister at such a young age.

Is that on a bootleg cd? If so, which one?

Didn't John also sing "Early Morning Rain" at the May 29, 1977 concert in Baltimore, Maryland?

Does anyone remember why John didn't participate in the original Elvis In Concert show in Memphis on August 16, 1997? I'm wondering if it was due to illness or if he was committed to something else at the time?

One day in 1989 John suffered a severe stroke. After he recovered, his left arm stayed paralyzed.

Great memory, Pete! Yes, I've always loved that scene in the movie as well... you could tell by John's expression that it wasn't simply something for the cameras... a rare stolen moment... very cool! "Da-da-da-da-da-da-daaaaaaa..."

I wonder what brought that on at such an early age? If my math is correct he was only about 43 when that happened!
