If u could have a soundboard of the Las Vegas July 31 1969 show or the June 26th 1977 Indianapolis , which would u take, i know i'd love both but hey ?

Surely that's one of the all time most obvious answers in the Elvis world - we have a fairly good audience recording and a watchable enough video of Indy /77. It may have been the last show but there are two professionally recorded shows from the last week which give a good representation of an Elvis show from this period. He'd done it all by then - his way, as he so often sang and there were no surprises left. There's nothing of July 1969 barring a few photos as far as I know. Even though we have some shows from the first week of August by then he'd showed the world what he could still do, the nerves were fading, the confidence was back, the king was in the building once again. On July 31st this wasn't the case and I for one would love to hear even a poor audience recording should one ever pop up in fifty years time. Hmmnn, make that thirty years. We saw how nerves energised him in the 68 special in front of a few dozen people (or whatever size the tv studio held). What must it have been like performing in front of 2000 members of the press watching his every move in judgement, not to mention his fellow celebrities, many of whom held him in awe or were otherwise inspired and influenced by him. That's a lot of pressure to live up to. It must have affected his performance and even if it wasn't obvious it would still be a fascinating show to hear for any and all of the above reasons.

So in summary, I'd like to hear the July 1969 show please. If you could arrange it, t'would be lovely, ta. :)

While both shows on the dates mentioned have significant meaning, for me this is easy,

I'd settle for an audience recording from the July 31, 1969 show.

Especially if it sounds as good as the quality of the June 26, 1977 show.

July 1969 without a doubt.

1969, absolutely.
Oh, if only...

As much as I would like to get hold of a (semi)professional recording of Elvis' final show, even I would settle for the Opening Night '69. No doubt about that.

And elmonstro described the reason for this selection perfectly.

I would settle for the apocryphal clay pot!

P.S. -- It is a myth: sounds never were accidentally cut into clay pots. But one can dream!

The Indianapolis audience recording as featured on ADIOS is perfect as it is. I would NEVER want a soundboard to ruin the atmosphere of that show.

69 ALL the way for me, in ANY format.

We already have a pretty much perfect audience recording of Indy, 1977. Nothing can top the audience atmosphere.

July 31, 1969 all the freaking WAY.

I want to hear both shows in the best possible sound quality, really. But if I was forced to choose with a gun aimed at me I probably choose July 31, 1969 probably to conclude all 1969 were high class performances but also sound very simular. It would be worth something to me though to hear both shows in soundboard quality.

July 31, 1969 no doubt. If only to hear how Elvis performed in front of collegues only.
