Raising His Own Bar


Coming very soon is a previously unreleased Dinner Show from August 14, 1969. Just recently the “Convair” Label released “Bright Light City” featuring Elvis Presley’s Dinner Show August 12, 1969. With its stunning artwork and of course with a great show, the fans demanded for more. You may now say that you have an old Import CD at home called “The Winner Back In Vegas” also claiming that this release featured the August 14, 1969 Dinner Show but during the years fans and research proved that this information was wrong and it was a compilation of songs from various shows to represent a complete show. “Convair” has all the information tracked down and they are part of the 20 pages booklet that comes with the new release.

It’s the raw and powerful Elvis who is trying to raise his own bar from show to show. It’s the third week of his first engagement after the Hollywood era and one can feel that he enjoys himself in front of the audience. His jokes and his nervousness can be found during the monologue which often gets referred as “Life Story”. Hear him telling his own career is pure fun. As a special bonus we have included a rare audioclip of Jerry Scheff, bass player in 1969 of the famous TCB Band talking about being on stage with Elvis.

This release comes once more with a stunning cover and is again limited to 300 copies only. Get it while you can.

i was very happy with the 3 releases convair have released so far so i will be looking forward to this one. bright light city was a good release so i can see this being a good one, but it might not be evones cup of tea but to me i'll be happy to have this in my collection .

The title just rolls off the tongue...

With all the multitrack recordings recorded by RCA there is no need for these kind of cd's. Most of the aug 69 shows are very familiar. Even the life story is practically the same in every show. Only when a new song comes around it would be usefull to release that song, or show. Too much of the same.

I am waiting for the next release - "Shootin' Off The Wall."

Elvis only gave 57 live performances in 1969, and just 11 were officially recorded on multi-track by RCA. Follow That Dream has well-represented the engagement from these multi-tracks, with four (4) incredible CDs.

To date, six (6) have been issued in full:

Among others, Tom Jones was at the August 25 MS, so Elvis was no doubt really kicking ass and taking no prisoners this night. The real "mystery" show is August 23 DS. In 43 years, not a single cut has surfaced, the only one of the "energetic eleven" to hold that distinction. Coincidence?

In any case, given that Presley was at the TOP of his game in July-August 1969, every single new show is an essential purchase for the serious Elvis fan, even audience recordings with very poor titles.

At the very least, his nightly monologue, a truth-telling, stream-of-consciousness revelation without parallel in his performing career, is always worth close analysis.
