I think it was the right song (one among many by Kristofferson), but I'd like to know what people think would have made it better.
The words fit him. They fit his life quite well. But something didn't gel, exactly, as he goes through the motions quite a bit.
So, how would one change the arrangement, the vocals, the instruments? What could have made it work better for him, since I think it could have. I just can't figure out which thing(s).
(Maybe a poll? If I get bored on the plane, maybe I'll try to make a poll. Who knows?)

It would have been better if Presley had chosen any number of other songs that "fit his life quite well" from then-hot songwriter Kris Kristofferson.
"Help Me Make It Through The Night" was covered dozens of times in 1970-1972 alone, well before his lackluster version hit the market, and is yet another instance of a complete lack of thought
regarding the material Elvis chose to put to tape. The decline from 1969 standards is well in evidence in this example.http://www.secondhandsongs.com/performance/32856

It is yet another example of what kind of music Elvis liked and wanted to record. He made alot of good music in the 70´s.
