I've often wondered the same thing myself. Was it common for performers of Elvis's caliber of the time to not have opening acts? Is it true that Elvis never had an opening act outside his own circle? I remember a comedian from "Elvis On Tour." I wonder how long the comedian performed?

Elvis had Comedian Sammy Shore and then after he left Jackie Kahanie(SP)
The Sweet Inspirations would also come on and sing some songs before Elvis.

I don't think it was really necessary to hire another singer as an opening act when you had the Sweet inspirations.

I suspect the reason Parker didn't bring another singer a board as an opening act was because it would cost more money which would then mean less for Elvis and him.

I don't think a top quality singer opening up for Elvis would make a difference because he wouldn't go over very well with the crowd as everyone was Elvis fans.
He could give the performance of a lifetime and probably get a very lukewarm response from the audience.
