The story goes about version mentioned on spot # 3 was partly rejected. Tie producer wanted some lyric changes. Finally the song was recorded with new lyrics (mentioned spot # 1).

Love is not a forever thing
It’s unclear demo versions were sent in for this songtitle.
According to the script from Follow that dream the song was selected for scene 12 (see lyrics in the script). The song was not used and finally replaced by I’m not the marrying kind

I have loved you in my fashion
The song was suggested for scene 51 in the movie Wild in the country according to the script page 46.
I don’t have other information about demo versions.
Selected / recorded for this scene: In my way.

It’s a pity there’s not much known about demos / song selection for this movie.

Elvis did indeed receive demos of all four tracks.

1) Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. - appears to be an acetate dub from a record with female singer/orchestra.

2) You're all I want for Christmas - a dub of Bing crosbys record version - see below.

3) Let's play jingle bells - songwriter unknown, rock n roll track.

4) Santa you've done me wrong - songwriter unknown, blues track.

Kevan Budd.
Perhaps it could be the version recorded on 14 april 1955 by Jo Stafford with Paul Weston & his Orchestra. The song was recorded for an album. There's a clip on Youtube.

Roustabout

Additional unused songwriter submission for the title track -

Roustabout (Fred Wise and Randy Star)

Kevan Budd.
As far as I know there are two versions written by Fred Wise-Randy Starr titled Roustabout (both with different lyrics); one demo version is sung by Malcolm Dodd while the other demo version is sung by songwriter Randy Starr.

I’ll step down
According to songwriter Roy C. Bennett the song was offered to Elvis around 1960 but not used. Recorded on 18 july 1961 by Bonnie Guitar (RCA 47-7951). Copyright 12 june 1961.
The original version was recorded around may 1961 by Lee Diamond & The Cherokees (Fontana 267 252 FT) from UK.
There are clips on Youtube.

Tomorrow is a long time
Early 1966 Bob Dylan sent in an acetate with a few demo versions including Tomorrow is a long time to his producer Bob Johnston. See scans with his notes on the cover.
Bob Johnston is the husband of the well-known songwriter Joy Byers. The story goes he wrote most of the songs credited to Joy Byers. .
I don’t know how a demo version of this song reached Elvis for his recording on 26 May 1966.

The tracks:
- New morning
- Father of night
- Signs in the window (clip on Youtube)
- If dogs run free
are released in 1970 on an album by Bob Dylan.

Dog face
The song was written by Leiber & Stoller and selected for G.I. Blues but not recorded.
Dog face was recorded later on 29-07-60 by the Coasters; however the recording was never released.

(Dogface refers to a foot soldier in the infantry from the US Army in WW2)

Double trouble - demo on this CD (track 18) is the unused version by Gerald Nelson.

It’s a pity Double trouble written by Giant-Baum-Kaye in 1966 is not included.
Version # 1 is rejected
Version # 2 – according to the label it’s a new version but rejected too.

It’s not confirmed but more Double trouble – demo versions were submitted.

Girl happy (George Stoll-Robert van Eps) – this version is registered at ASCAP.
I don’t know it’s a demo version or an instrumental version. They have written the music for the soundtrack (see Girl happy cues).

It’s a pity there’s not much known about demo versions / musical sequence of the film music in the movie.

It happens every year (Michael Robert Jarrett)
With an edited verse and re-written lyrics the song is recorded with the title “I’ll be home on Christmas day”. The song is registered at BMI (12-01-71).

edited verse
IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I’VE SEEN LITTLE JOHN, MICHELLE, CHRISTINE AND KAREN
I ALMOST FORGOT ALL THE PRESENTS THAT I BOUGHT A PURSE FOR LITTLE SISTER TO CARRY
IF I COULD SET ASIDE MY PRIDE, I JUST BE ON MY WAY
I’D BE (CATCH) THAT TRAIN TOMORROW I’LL BE HOME ON CHRISTMAS DAY
