At the time I’ve read about this LP in an old fanclubmagazine (from a few decades ago) written by a reliable member of the fanclub. No source was mentioned.
I’ve not found other information so it’s probably a rumour.

Yellow rose of Texas
Demo acetate from this song written by Fred Wise & Randy Starr. (see upcoming Randy Starr CD’s)

The song is adapted from an old song as recorded in the thirties by many (famous) artists.
With new lyrics the song was written for scene 50 in the final script.

The song was a last minute addition to the recording sessions. The demo was also recorded at Radio Recorders.
The song is a kind of national hymn in the state Texas.

Chautauqua was originally announced as Elvis's first project under his new contract with MGM in 1961, with the suggestion being that it would be an "all-star musical" featuring several period tunes. Edmund Grainger (Never So Few, Cimarron) was set to produce, before It Happened at the World's Fair was green lit instead.

Latterly, another project by the name of Chautauqua, based on Gay MacLaren's novel, Morally We Roll Along, was in development at Columbia, with Dick Van Dyke tipped to star, before this venture also stalled.

I agree completely, songwriting for Elvis is a difficult chapter. It’s known Elvis doesn’t like writing songs in the so-called “Presley-style”. Songplugger Freddy Bienstock had a job to select songs fit for possible recording.

See previous post(s) about demos originally offered by Randy Starr for the cancelled Christmas album project in 1966.

I presume other songwriters / songwriting teams were invited to write songs for this project too.
Anything known about other songs?
