Re: Elvis september tour 1977
And then of course Las Vegas December 1977.
I don't know if the September dates were confirmed, it looks like it.
This list does show the lack of vision on how to manage EP's career in the future.
Just business as usual.

Yes the dates were confirmed, however, no tickets were ever sold to the general public. No revenue was taken in for this tour.

Re: Elvis september tour 1977
No no no...tickets were sold. I posted these before.
I had these 2 floor seats for HUNTINGTON WV. I'm not sure about the other cities (one can only assume tickets were sold there too). Of course you were offered a REFUND but, I remember reading that only about 100 people asked for a refund.

FYI, I got the tongue in cheek comment. Really small markets, probably some of the smallest ever played,/would have played.midnightx wrote:Some big markets there.

Re: Elvis september tour 1977
$15.00 for a ticket to see one of the greatest entertainers of the 20th century... if not THE greatest. WOW! I can't believe that was the going rate even for 1977. Parker was an idiot.

After seeing Elvis In Concert during the fall of 1977, fans no doubt would have flocked in huge numbers to the new Hilton venue to see their hero.wakans wrote:I've read somewhere 'bout a the new Hilton Pavilion opening in October 1977..Maybe at the end of the tour

Re: Elvis september tour 1977
Hey Brad, the newspaper reviews at the time seem to hint that the ticket prices were higher than average for the time.$15.00 for a ticket to see one of the greatest entertainers of the 20th century... if not THE greatest. WOW! I can't believe that was the going rate even for 1977. Parker was an idiot.
To be fair some the venue sizes were substantial. Elvis was still successful at the box office for concert receipts, even in 77. The Nassau Coliseum, where he was due back in August, held over 16,000, for example. The Hilton Pavilion was a major booking, in a substantially larger venue. We'll never know how that would have gone, but perhaps can imagine. Some big markets there.

Re: Elvis september tour 1977
My tickets in Pittsburgh in '73 were $5.00 The '75 and '76 shows were $7.50 and $10.
you know it was the time of WIN (Wip Inflation Now)...ha.
Damn the Eagles...before HELL FREEZES OVER tour you could still afford to take your family to a show. Springsteen in the 80's was around $28. But prices made a huge leap after the Eagles reunited.
The Huntington tickets came back in the mail with the wholes punched in them...and that's when I discovered I had "main floor".

Re: Elvis september tour 1977
In fact, given Elvis time on stage and looking at the production overall, $15 in 1977 was pretty expensive.DarrylMac wrote:Hey Brad, the newspaper reviews at the time seem to hint that the ticket prices were higher than average for the time.$15.00 for a ticket to see one of the greatest entertainers of the 20th century... if not THE greatest. Seeing Elvis on stage was priceless of course
I do think profitability must have been kind of under pressure looking at the number of people involved in the EP show (>110)
But still, if you look at other rock acts in 1975-77 Elvis stage production didn't really evolve as time went by.

Re: Elvis september tour 1977
A local DJ out of Philadelphia told me that the Col. was trying to book Elvis at the Kingdom in Seattle, Washington, for December 31, 1977 New Years Eve show. Have never seen that confirmed, however.

Re: Elvis september tour 1977
That's seems plausible since Elvis had been doing New years Eve concerts for the past couple of years and the Kingdom was an indoor stadium.rlj4ep wrote:A local DJ out of Philadelphia told me that the Col. was trying to book Elvis at the Kingdom in Seattle, Washington, for December 31, 1977 New Years Eve show. Re: Elvis september tour 1977
It may offend some people but sadly that was the situation of our hero in those last days...
I'm not sure if I laugh or get depressed.

Re: Elvis september tour 1977
Agreed, the initial faux tour lineup for Sept 77 I shared is a sad representation based on events that had occured earlier in the year and was meant mostly as a sarcastic joke.
However, lets say that Elvis managed to "turn the corner" in late 77 and began to straighten himself out, not only physically, but adding a few new songs to the show and eliminating some of the boring titles he'd been stuck doing for so long (ex: Love Me, I Got A Woman/Amen). This will be depicted here. I did keep a few titles he'd been doing, because it's my belief had he actually lived and made changes to the show, some of of his usual staples would probably had been kept around.

Re: Elvis september tour 1977
In august - and September - which jumpsuits would Elvis have used? We know the the new light blue one wasn't 100% ready for use. So what would he have been wearing in Portland?
