MRS (EP) ‘Such A Night in Pearl Harbor’ Press release !

Re: MRS (EP) ‘Such A Night in Pearl Harbor’ Press release !
Bearing in mind as well that the audio of the 1956 Tupelo concerts on the MRS release were absolutely NO better than previous RCA releases, I don't hold out a great deal of hope. Hype is quite often over used - look at the initial hype for the "48 Hours to Memphis" FTD for one!

Unless the awful dropouts have been corrected.Tony.. wrote: IF they have simply used the "EAP" box set version then there will be little difference.
That would already create a good listening experience, EAP box source or not.
Funny to see people are arguing over the source used, I think we'll know the answer soon...

And since the MRS disc will be sourced from the CD, this is why the 1998 CD box set was cited.
I hope this helps you.

Yes, but i bet nowhere on this site will you find the Doc criticizing that. We all know that the Doc is involved with FTD so that is where i have the problem with all this MRS bashing.Tony.. wrote:Bearing in mind as well that the audio of the 1956 Tupelo concerts on the MRS release were absolutely NO better than previous RCA releases, I don't hold out a great deal of hope. No label is perfect, if an MRS release is bad then criticize it, but also if any other label release is bad then criticize that also.

I never said Joan Deary was first. I only stated that her release predated Ernst's reissue of the "Elvis Aron Presley" box set. Of course, the 1978 Golden Archives bootleg release was the first release.Tony.. wrote:Neither did Joan Dreary.Daryl wrote:DrJohnCarpenter wrote:drjohncarpenter wrote:Not on CD, "Daryl."Daryl wrote:Didn't Joan Deary put out the Hawaii '61 show back in 1980.

I am surprised you even have the guts to come on here again after you have been exposed with your bootleg version. I am told by my dealer that you have had to reduce your price down to 5 euro. Whats the source of your sound? I suppose its has the same dropouts as on the EAP CD?
The Doc is right, if you want a CD taken from the EAP box, you might as well keep the EAP. So thats your new GRM label out. If you want something better, you get the MRS version.

Re: MRS (EP) ‘Such A Night in Pearl Harbor’ Press release !
What???midnightx wrote:Jealousy Ernst didn't put it out first? He could have released it numerous times over the past decade. Frankly, I am happy he didn't release it. It has been available for years. There doesn't appear to be an upgraded source available. I am happy that FTD has focused its efforts in other ways. Perhaps Sony is still figuring out the best way to reissue the '61 show in terms of what kind of project to associate it with. I personally never felt that a stand-alone release would have been that interesting.
What brand of glue have you been sniffing.
The best recorded Elvis concert ever doesn't deserve a stand alone release??
Are you kidding me?
You have to be joking. Not a funny joke.
The key is that it has been along time since its CD release on
the box set, and I am hoping a technical improvement of some kind can
be made on this show.
If not, well, it will come with a 100 page book for the price
of an average FTD set.
I was very happy with the hayride package.
Any true Elvis Presley hobbyist and collector, gives little mind about
the behind the scenes politics of the Elvis world.
I don't give a rats ass about sources or whatever goes on behind the scenes, because
all of them, the bootleggers, Sony, FTD, and MRS, can be criticized with
certain choices they have made concerning their products.
They all hype the stuff they sell.
In the end, is there value for the money?
That's all it boils down to.
If Ernst is too busy mastering soundbaords to bother with the Hawaii show,
then what can we do?

Re: MRS (EP) ‘Such A Night in Pearl Harbor’ Press release !
Yes, it is one of the greatest Presley concert recordings in existence. It has previously been issued by RCA twice. Had FTD issued it, yes, it would have been a wonderful addition to the FTD catalogue; but considering how many fans constantly gripe that FTD reissues previously released material, one can only imagine the backlash FTD would have received had it made the Hawaii '61 a standard, stand-alone release. Clearly you are the one "sniffing" something if you can't recognize that fact. The Hawaii '61 show should be reissued as part of a larger-scale project. At one point, forum member Matthew suggested this stellar concert should be part of a Legacy Edition of Elvis Is Back (although that opportunity slipped away when Legacy went the two-fer route with that title). Still, that line of thinking makes more sense.

I wish it were an FTD project. I'm very wary of these 'off-label' releases.

Re: MRS (EP) ‘Such A Night in Pearl Harbor’ Press release !
I guess we'll just have to wait until either those sound samples are put on-line or until the MRS set is released. I have my suspicions that once it's proved that it wasn't lifted from the 1998 CD version of "Elvis Aron Presley," certain members of this forum won't own up to their erroneous comments.poormadpeter wrote:and, as always, someone is yet again avoiding the answering of a very simple question.poormadpeter wrote:Could you give us your proof that the material will be sourced from the boxed set? Hi there!! .
Personally I think that Ernst will not be happy if this is released by MRS . The best move would be if FTD release this show before the other releases come out. Bye for now .

Griping aside, if FTD had issued the concert on it's label, it would have been the first legal
STAND ALONE release of this show. I don't think alot of fans would gripe under this
scenerio. I would buy it.
I don't know, maybe Ernst feels that the sound can not be improved so why bother.
Perhaps that's his position. Now, that MRS has scooped him, there is no
hurry at all to release it on FTD.
And why should the show be released on a larger scale project?
They have already included it in a box set once.
That does not need to be done again. PERIOD.
Are you one of those crazies that believes certain things need to be on every subsequent box set such
as the insane repeating of the 1956 Las vegas show and a few other things that
get the same treatment over and over and over again.
Your arguement and position make no sense and zero logic.
The legacy series, from what I understand, is only top quality recordings as far as sound goes.
The show has always been a substandard sounding recording, so the only place that wlll fit is
on a larger scale project such as a box set. BEEN DONE.
And on the FTD's collectors label, included for historical reasons.
I don't suggest that sony release the show on a main label stand alone release.
Your bias thinking has got your mind twisted up.
Happy to school you and set you straight.

It's a move that I'm sure Ernst expected MRS to make, so maybe getting an FTD version out first wasn't considered a priority.Mike Windgren wrote:Personally I think that Ernst will not be happy if this is released by MRS .

Actually you are out of touch with what the real fan wants.
The proof is right in front of you.
Two, count'em two, stand alone releases of this show within a month of each other.
And we still don't know if FTD will make it three when they announce thier upcoming schedule.
I think many fans will buy this release.
Of course you won't. But hey you already own a "copy".
