Many people don't know it but there was a Readers Digest CD released in 1986 that was a reprocessed stereo cd also. You can see it in the collections section (when they update it) of elvisoncd.com and you can see a totally unknown (until now at least on elvisoncd) pressing of it right here. These supposed stereo remixes are not the same imitation stereo remixes made for the 1984 cd's. These as I listen to them are done much more tasteful and minimal effect is added. If anyone is interested I can post a few songs from this release to compare with the 1984 releases. Maybe they can tell more about the mixes on this cd. Two of the songs are not on the 1984 reprocessed stereo releases. Playing for keeps and I was the one.
I don't know if their pressing from 1990 is back to mono or not as I don't have that one. I'm not a vinyl expert but this might have been issued on vinyl also.

I dont have a U.S.A pressing of the later release but i do have a Candian one , I`ve had it for years but never played it so i just tried it out and it certainly isn`t mono but neither is it awful reprocessed stereo it actually sounds quite good.

'Too Much' sounds great. Not as spectacular as the 'Hound Dog' clip though, but I don't hear much stereo in 'I want you, I need you, I love you'.
Thanks for posting!!

Chad, you and I have two different presses of the exact same cd both cd's sound the same. I didn't know that there was a US and a Canadian pressing, the one on elvisoncd.com must be the Canadian pressing, just like yours.
Could you post Playing For Keeps and I Was The One...these two songs are the only two not offered on the 4 1984 cd's that were released stereophonically. As you can tell, if they were remastered stereophonically, they were done tastefully. I am not sold on these being stereophonic recordings tho. Yet my cd specifically states that all tracks were re-recorded to simulate stereo and yours doesn't. My pressing is from 1986 and yours is from 1991. As I said I'll try to post some recordings tonight from my cd so you'all can compare. Feedback as to if others feel these are imitation stereo would be greatly appreciated.

I listened to Swing Down Sweet Chariot from MArch 25th,1961-it sounds even better than the MRS. Can you do the whole cd? At least the show part anyway?
I would really love to hear the whole 61 show like this!

Oh My God-I just listened to Peace In The Valley from Ed Sullivan with headphones on. You should re-do all the Ed Sullivan shows on dvd. Just the Elvis part of course.
Sounds better and still natural to.

Pretty cool, MSpock - thanks for that! Wish I'd come up with a better quality rip. I should probably try to rip the version from "Elvis Forever Vol. 2" or the one from the CAMDEN compilation "The First Ten Years" (oh no, there it is again the final track on Side 1).
Anyway, thanks again. Live long and prosper!
