When did Elvis first apply the "chong chong chonga chicka chicka chong chong...bit to the ending of Hound Dog?
I remember hearing it as a kid for the first time (I believe) on the Memphis album...the quality of which, with it's badly overdubbed applause, is the subject of a whole other debate. (Ernst, bring us a re-mastered album in its entirety, please.)
I'm wondering, did Elvis choose to close this classic number with anything but the usual "chong, chong, chicka" bit anytime after early '74? I've never really been a fan of the bit. I wish he had given the song more respect or discarded it...and I would like to locate a GOOD version of Hound Dog performed between '74 and '77. Does it exist? Thanks! [/b]

I just read your article on Hound Dog and wanted to pass on my congratulations to you. Never seen it before, but a more thorough and painstaking analysis I could not have wished for. Thanks again!
