I quote Dave Marsh : " some people want to believe Elvis a failure because admitting the magnitude of his success would make their own shortcomings unbearable" :D

Take a skeptical look. Tilt your head to the right. Look at their shoes and slowly scan them from there on until you reach their eyes. Calmly raise your left eyebrow. Slightly pull your head backwards while you turn up your nose as if you were standing in front of a reeking pile of waste. Then shrug your shoulders and take a 180 degree turn. Walk away completely unmoved and at ease.

(Sorry for my english. I hope I didn't do too bad ;-))

When I was younger I used to offer a reasonable and well-thought-out defence. These days I just tell them to f- off.

What's going on there that Batman is slapping Robin?

I hate to think that they are having problems.

Happened to me all the time in the 1980s...it was not cool to be an Elvis fan at times back then. My usual retort was "well, opinions are like friends: everybody's got one...".

Of course being 6'4"/300lb meant nobody really ever disagreed with me further on the matter...

Exactly. Same with me. Especially during the period I was in my puberty - nobody believed I would listen to Elvis' music.

Never had that said to me. People have told me they don't like him for one reason or another and I tell them ok that's cool, that's what makes the world go round.

Tell them that many Opera singers respect Elvis' talent. I think it was Pavarotti who said "Elvis can sing opera, but I cannot sing Jailhouse Rock". If you research the internet you will find it is filled with opera singers who appreciate Elvis Presley. Quite frankly, Elvis was the best popular vocalist that ever was recorded.

I have not heard anybody say this in years when Elvis name is brought up,they either say they like him,or they don't say anything,i never hear anyone say anything bad about him. When i was a kid, alot of kids in school did not like him until our music teachers did a class history lesson about him for a week, they played songs and showed Jailhouse Rock and Loving You and once the kids were made aware of the history of Elvis and exposed to the best of Elvis they all began to like him. Some of my friends did not like him until they heard the songs i would play.and next thing you know they all started to like him also.

Anyway back in the day when anyone would say he sucks i would get really mad and defend him big time, and tell them all about Elvis's achievements and especially how come Elvis is still the #1 record seller worldwide ever till this day,and tell them just go and do some research and see for yourself on why Elvis is the greatest. So i have not had to defend Elvis when anybody says that he sucks in many years.

What i have noticed with people that say they don't like Elvis is because they don't take the time to stop and give him a chance, and when they do they turn out liking him. When the remix of A little Less Conversation came out on June 25th 2002 and Elvis 30 #1Hits in September 24th of 2002 both became big hits worldwide, and Elvis 2nd To None released October 7th 2003,all 3 releases created a new generation of Elvis fans.

I don't care what people think, say or what ever. Even if it was said to pi$$ me off they won't succeed. If i like Elvis and it makes me feel good to listen to his music it's my life. At least i can trust my ears they never lied to me. Besides that i avoid rooms full of people. As an asperger you wound find me i growded rooms unless it's really really necessary. Especially birthdayparties they're like hell. You sit beside some inquisitive 3th or 4th grade relative finding out things about you that they use against you.

People who say that to me are obviously just trying to get under my skin. Additionally, they're part of that large group of people who just don't "get" Elvis and never will. There's no reasoning with them. I just walk away.

This may well be my reply to the initial question:

"You think Elvis sucks? That's nothing. Wait till you meet some of the fans I could introduce you to."

Robin was making one of those lame "My Boy" jokes.

Have never heard anyone say that to me or in my presence. Yet, like Rob, the opinions of others with regard to Elvis never bothered me.
I think DOC sums it up well, that for anyone to even suggest such a thing shows their ignorance and there is no point in going any further with the conversation.

I've been questioned about it - ribbed about it at times.

My wife has made no secret that she dislikes Elvis' music.

However, I choose not to respond in any way, I don't defend, I don't attempt to change minds. I simply let it go.

Any amount of information/opinion I could give will generally not change someone's opinion.
