Gotta have rock and roll auction results

Sat Jul 23, 2011 9:11 pm

Weird system for ending the auctions. There are 750 lots and each time a bid is made on a single item the whole auction goes back to the 10 minutes overtime. I suppose this way they get more bids on all the items.
The auction finally ended at about 9:30 this morning. I actually saw it happen.

And the results are in:

#2: Elvis Presley 1950's Owned and Worn Lansky Bros. Outfit Final Hammer: $25,725.00
Unique item, Elvis clothing on the day of his very first RCA recording session. Was expected to go much higher.

#3: Elvis Presley Stage Worn Mohair Suit and Boots With Scarf
interesting item, one of the very first jumpsuits. Final Hammer: $36,772.00
I was expecting that this would have sold for at least 40 or 50K.

#4: Elvis Presley Owned and Worn IC Costume Shirt and Pants With Belt Final Hammer: $10,631.00
A steal? Considering another lot with just a shirt went for 9K.

#10: Elvis Presley Worn "It Happened at the World's Fair" Blazer & Slacks Final Hammer: $3,000.00
#11: Elvis Presley Owned and Worn Diamond and Opal Ring Final Hammer: $10,365.00
just within the expected pricerange.

#12: Elvis Presley 1950's Owned and Worn Lansky Bros. Outfit Final Hammer: $13,798.00
Nice item.
Found a picture of this in Tunzi's book and even one in the booklet of the complete 50s box.

#13: Elvis Presley 14kt Gold Crucifix Gifted to Homer Gilleland Final Hammer: $10,292.00
About double the expected value.

#21: Elvis Presley Owned and Worn IC Costume Blue Shirt Final Hammer: $8,983.00
Quite on the high side, considering for just 2K more and you have the pants and belt extra.

Which items do you think are steals?
I wish I could have bought the mohair jumpsuit.

I doubt any of these item are authentic.

Isn't that mohair suit at Graceland?

@Elvisnorway: No that mohair suit is not in Graceland. A white version is.

@Promiseland: based on what facts do you come to that conclusion?
Pretty bold statement to say that nothing is authentic. I bet you have a drawer full of Lansky labels laying around?

Isn't it a bit weird that your avatar says "protecting Elvis' image" but then has a Mr. Potato-head in it? :?

Have you heard of sarcasm?
But my avatar is off topic to this discussion.

Please reply on topic.

I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic.

Ok. On topic:

It's fake, and not worth looking at.

Ok, but WHY do you think that?
What are the facts that they are fake?

Gentlemen such as Alan Fortas and Harold Lloyd are quite well known names. I'd prefer an item from them above Paul Lichter any day.

The auction lists a shirt 'worn' by Elvis in the film 'Jailhouse Rock' but then goes on to say 'this was one of 4 shirts purchased for the film' but has no proof that Elvis actually 'worn' this shirt at all. :?

yes I also had my doubts about that Jailhouse rock shirt.

But the other items (except the belt that I mentioned before) look authentic.

They are also very dead, and it's just as easy to forge their names as it is Elvis's. That's exactly what someone did. All of the clothing items in the recent sale were fakes.

if they are fakes, then they must be very good tailors. The clothing labels are authentic and even show wear of over time.
A newly recreated clothing item with the exact same label would be hard to recreate.
