Scotty's Echoplex amplifier

Fri Apr 22, 2011 4:11 am

Its too bad that when Elvis introduced Scotty, DJ, et al during the "sit-down" portion of his tv special that he didn't mention that Scotty had brought along his famous Echoplex amplifier that he used in the 1950s on all the recordings from "Mystery Train" onward.

Is this amp the one Elvis roars through when he uses the electric?

No wonder there was magic that night.

Yes if you mean when he switches guitars with Scotty.
No, if you mean the segment where he's alone playing the red 68 Hagstrom.

Yes if you mean when he switches guitars with Scotty.

That's exactly what I mean: Thursday, June 27, 1968.

Thought so, had to be sure. You can find out all about the echosonic in the first link I put up. When he played Al Casey's Hagstrom he also used his amp onstage, a Benson 200, one of the forerunners of "boutique" amps. There's more about that in the second link.
