Re: An Afternoon has charted again
I noticed Afternoon included in a bargain music display at Walmart yesterday. The cover was highlighted on the signage. Walmart must've sold a few.
"Don't tell me to play it. I will when I get ready. Do you understand me?"

Re: An Afternoon has charted again
With the album re-charting again, expect Sony Music to now put out the On Tour material commercially and a Legacy Edition or perhaps a deluxe edition box set to the MSG shows next year. I know some will say I'm crazy or keep dreaming but this is proof that the live Elvis is selling.

Re: An Afternoon has charted again
The connection with Wal-Mart is very significant.
It seems either the chain got hold of a large number of unsold warehouse stock or Sony has purchased store space to clear units.
The fact that these sales can make a difference to Billboard charts is revealing in that the demise of local record stores means that Wal-Mart market share of a declining market grows greater every day.
That being so are the charts, to an unknown extent, being determined by the whims of what WaL -Mart decides or is paid to push?

Funny how some aren't satisfied when he does reach the charts that they look for any possible reason to downgrade the success. Are some of you really fans or just bored envious bastards?

I fall into the 1st category, with an occasional lapse into the 2nd.vivaelvis_72 wrote:Funny how some aren't satisfied when he does reach the charts that they look for any possible reason to downgrade the success. Are some of you really fans or just bored envious bastards?

Re: An Afternoon has charted again
There is nio way that this CD entered the charts on it's intrinsic valuue.
It is very legitimive to ponder why. Could it be Sony are quitting stocks so that a total Legacy package of both shows is in the wind?

Re: An Afternoon has charted again
That's funny coming from a poster located in New Zealand. That's like me, an American, saying that no way did it sell on it's own in New Zealand. Let's don't jump to conclusions on this. It very well could be selling on its own merits. But yes, I expect to see either a mainstream project box set of the shows and presser or a Legacy Edition for the 40th. I also expect something to be done with the On Tour tapes as well for the 40th.KiwiAlan wrote:There is nio way that this CD entered the charts on it's intrinsic valuue.

Re: An Afternoon has charted again
"Viva Elvis" tanked here too - our local record stores stocked up to the ceiling on them and there they sat. Hell, they even had it playing on rotation in the stores. The music couldn't save it!vivaelvis_72 wrote:That's funny coming from a poster located in New Zealand.
"An Afternoon in the Garden" - a 14 year old CD release, has not re-charted because suddenly Joe Public have caught onto to its artistic merits. There has to be an outflow of cheap copies on the shelves. Let's just be thankful that its a pretty decent release for casual fans to be picking up,

An Afternoon selling on it's merits?
So all of a sudden several hudred people decideed that out of all the hundreds of Elvis CD's that have been released that this one, above all others, needed to be bought. That this album would become his biggest seller in 2011.
Really

Re: An Afternoon has charted again
How did Michael Jackson's new album do? I can't even remember the name of it. My point being that like MJ, the VE album got very little media attention, not because of lack of interest but lack of promotion. That's just a fact.Matthew wrote:"Viva Elvis" tanked here too - our local record stores stocked up to the ceiling on them and there they sat. Hell, they even had it playing on rotation in the stores. What on earth has Michael Jackson got to do with anything? "Viva Elvis" tanked because it was crap, that's just a fact.vivaelvis_72 wrote:How did Michael Jackson's new album do?
