What new albums would you like to see released by SONY/RCA

#891273

Post by vivaelvis_72 »

If you could request a special concept album from Sony/RCA, what would it be? It can't be a reissue or remastered album already available. It must be a new album of original songs. It can be more than one project. Be creative and specific. What would your track listing be? I'm curious to see your creative minds go to work. :)

I've had a litle project in the back of my mind these past few months, it's kind of a Hip-Hop/Dance/House music mash-up featuring material from Elvis' worst 1960s Hollywood movie soundtracks to play on your car stereo when there just ain't no room to rhumba in a sports car with Petunia, the gardener's daughter, at the Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce.

At these early stages of developments it would ne naive of me to disclose further any plans about this sure-fire Number 1 Global smash. What I will say is I'm just trying to think of a way to work "My Boy" into the 1960s Hollywood concept.

What element of Elvis' recording career HASNT been covered by compilations?
We have the Sun comps, Christmas,Country,Rock,Live,Love songs,Movie, several box sets,I mean the market has been flooded with compilations.
Not taking a swipe here, but it might be a good idea to give the "comps" idea a rest for a while.
Rather than a new comp,I would much rather see the first album get a true Legacy release.

Its a nice set,R&B,but I dont think it would fly in the general marketplace, which means Sony, which is not a non profit organization, wouldnt consider it.

Fantastic and well thought out! I would buy that in a heartbeat. I feel THIS is the type of needed addition to the Elvis Presley catalog instead of the best-of series. There is an audience for R&B/Bluesy Elvis that has yet to be tapped into commercially. Well done! ::rocks

R&B player's tracklisting is a nice collection of songs and quality performances, but it has no chance of being produced in the 2011 era of retail music, particularly for Elvis Presley's mainstream catalogue.

One of my dream projects that I would love to see come to realization would be a definitive live 4 disc set featuring some of Elvis' historical and previously released concert material on the road from 1972-77. I created this and posted it originally on TCB-World and it got a nice response. I call it Standing Room Only - The Definitive Live Collection.

We already have the nice but incomplete Live In Las Vegas box set that focuses on Elvis in Vegas only, but that covers a small portion of his live performances as a whole.. This would save the company money by remastering and mixing the As Recorded At Madison Square Garden and the Elvis In Concert album and putting them into a single project without having to flood the market with a bunch of individual live albums.

We all know that the great energetic Hampton Roads show has yet to be released and is deserving to be, we know the original MSG album has never been updated, we know that the Alternate Aloha dress rehearsal show has also yet to be released, properly anyway, and the June '77 CBS shows have yet to be given the proper remastering treatment.

This set shows that there is a way to package all of these shows and albums into one project that the consumer would be intrigued to hearing. The image of Elvis on stage is based around the Aloha special on dvd and his Vegas shows from TTWII. This set gives a more comprehensive look at the live performer on the road and away from the Vegas stage.

Here's a dream album that I would really like to see happen one day. It's a compilation of the Nashville sessions from June, 1970. I think these recording represent his finest studio work in the final decade of his life. (Yes, I made those covers myself)

Track listing:

1.I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water
2.Patch It Up
3.Mary In The Morning
4.The Nest Step Is Love
5.You Don't Have To Say You Love Me
6.I've Lost You
7.Cindy, Cindy
8.Just Pretend
9.Stranger In The Crowd
10.Bridge Over Troubled Water
11.Faded Love
12.Twenty Days And Twenty Nights
13.Sylvia
14.Heart Of Rome
15.I Really Don't Want To Know
16.I Got My Mojo Workin'/Hands Off Of Her
17.The Sound Of Your Cry
18.How The Web Was Woven
19.Whole Lot-ta Shakin' Goin' On
20.Tomorrow Never Comes

All tracks would be digitally remixed (like with the Promised Land album in 1999) using the first generation master recordings for superior optimum sound quality.

I Think R&B Player's compilation is excellent and well thought out. I'd buy it, as this is the side of Elvis I love. Could Sony make enough money on it, especially as a four CD package with liner notes by R&B Player? Without any proof, I really doubt it.

It raises a question that I have thought about. What is the Elvis Presley market demographic now? What can they make money on? Is it just hits packages, Christmas and Gospel packages, which seem to constantly find new buyers, the occasional legacy package and the hard core FTD market (which I still believe are overpriced, if they dropped the price to $12 which the Hendrix people sell their collector cds for, would they make a profit?).

So essentially for Sony, as a business, what actually is the market for Elvis' music now? What can they make a profit on? What will people buy, not us, but the general music buying public? I'd love to see their market research and sales figures, they would be enlightening. What does their demographic research say? What Elvis material are people downloading?

As fans we all think that our favourites music will sell and should be made available to all. The question is does it sell? And is the casual fan interested. I'm a casual fan of Jeff Beck (probably as much an innovator in his field - guitar - as EP was), I really doubt you could get me to buy anything past the hits, maybe an early years compilation, no matter how strongly the hardcore fans want me to buy it. And Beck has some hardcore fans who clamour just as hard as people here for big releases.

So does anyone have thoughts, backed by some evidence, not conjecture, of what the EP market is now? I am really interested to hear what you have. But please I will not respond to rudeness, I want to discuss not argue. I'll do some research too, it would only be fair.

Why would you want the 1970 Nashville material remixed? Vic Anesini's current remasters are as good as it gets.

Good points but remember that each demographic market varies from each country. For instance, something that might sell in the UK may not in the US, vice versa.

Those recordings suffer from poor mixing by the producers. An upgraded version like that of Promised Land could do wonders for them. Besides, I haven't heard the new masters since they are only available on that overpriced box set that's been going around.

Elvis wise - Madison Square Garden (evening show) would be a killer if it were mastered by Vic.

Non Elvis wise-

The Complete Elton John 28/11/74 MSG show featuring John Lennon. To date only 13 tracks is available from the concert  Never heard an atmosphere quite like it. But that's New York !!!!!!!

The MSG show is already on record. I said no albums already available. Just new projects only. But I do agree.

Sorry, but remastering that album/show won't do it any wonders. The original album is poorly mixed to begin with and needs to be completely newly mixed a la the Aloha From Hawaii remix in 1998 which is far superior to the quadradisc mix from 1973.

I agree in part. Vic's mastering is well done and the performances sound great, so a remix isn't a necessity. That being said, I would love to hear what Vic could do with a remix.

The 1998 Ferrante remix of Aloha is horrid. One of Ferrante's worst efforts. It is dull, lifeless, and muddy. He really couldn't have done much worse. Again, if you think about how stellar Vic's mixing has been with the 1969/1970 multi-track live tapes, just imagine what he could do with Aloha. As with MSG, Vic's current mastering is the final word for now.
