Does this count under the 50 years copyright law? . I mean this year it could be falling out of protection and maybe MRS is thinking on re-releasing this fantastic show. Just in case FTD should released it soon . Bye for now .

Fantastic document. Mossman was the MC, I did not know that. One wonders if the openers each got one song or two. My guess is one, so the opening would not run past an hour, and Elvis could get on stage before 10 PM.

Here's a 1961 review in NME by the late Maurice Kinn. Interesting that Presley's first record for Sun was "Somethin' Blues" [sic], eh?

The article notes Elvis played guitar for just one number -- "That's All Right" perhaps?

There must be hundreds of unpublished photos from this performance; note a few alternate shots in the article.

I read it, and that's how I learned his first record was "Somethin' Blues".

This reviewer was not very observant, so I don't trust him.

For one, I am not saying he played his guitar on "heartbreak hotel", as he states for his first record, just that he
had it around his neck.

Who recorded it?

Was an inline recording made from a soundboard? Or only a mic pointed at a PA speaker? Who has the master source tape/s now? What generation tape did RCA use on the EAP 1980 box?

Why doesn't FTD reissue this (giving us a welcome respite from 1976 concerts)?

This performance demands a reissue in the best sound possible. Has Jorgensen commented on the absence of this performance in the commercial marketplace while Dragon Heart remains in print?

Good questions, some of which have been posed in this thread.

I'll try to see if I can get any more info on the existing materials.

For what it's worth, I have put out two different "feelers" to see if I can dig out more information on this performance and the recording of it.

It's also cool to note a stage right rear view of the seated audience, a sold-out crowd of about 5,500 people.

that looks like a stage but its actually just the floor with no seats on it.

Also worth mentioning that Col. Parker is seen in front of the banner.

On page 52 of the Tunzi book 'Elvis Hawaii' 61 - there is a shot of Col. Parker at the front of the stage whilst Elvis is performing, in the same suit.

Isn't he just the coolest in this shot? Look at the look on his face.

Maybe FTD could do a classic album release and package their CD in something that looks like the original bootleg release, which is amongst the greatest releases by anyone ever.

It would be so awesome if the sound quality could be improved on. This show, along with the Mississippi Alabama Fair recordings, are the best examples of early Elvis live performances IMHO, but the sound quality relegates them to being played far less often than they deserve.

Of course, unless different source tapes are discovered, that's a bit of utopia, but still .....
