Hallmark Records releases

Thu Feb 03, 2011 6:20 pm

I recently found out that a music company called Hallmark Records has released some Elvis albums with the sub-title "original recordings". These are the albums they have released so far 'Elvis Presley', 'Elvis' (1956), 'King Creole' ,'A Date With Elvis', 'For LP fan only' and they are planing to release Elvis Golden Records Vol 2. Have any of you buy any of these cds? are they worth our attention?

some albums have different covers from the originals.

I have "A Date with Elvis" & "For LP Fans Only", I'm not sure if you would consider them worthy your attention the "For LP Fans Only" the front cover photo is not very sharp/clear at all and the music has the original album mixes that have alot of reverb added to the songs. They are very cheap tho to buy so its worth it from that standpoint. I actually like listening to this from time to time since it is the vintage sound. The "A Date with Elvis" Hallmark cd of course does not have the original RCA album artwork & the songs do not have the reverb on them. I think they are worth it if you don't pay to much.

Is this company affiliated with Hallmark USA? I think these might be cheap off brand releases. These aren't Sony/BMG releases are they?

They are public domain releases (and therefore only "legal" in EU).

Hallmark records are a subsidiary of Pickwick records which in turn is a subsidiary of RCA records. From the late 60's RCA has released Elvis on its various budget labels and this is no different, Currently they are releasing original album material and currently have issued the following albums :

307622 GOOD ROCKIN' LIVE IN '55 (HALLMARK)
703322 ELVIS GOLDEN RECORDS VOL 1 (HALLMARK)
705472 THE EARLY YEARS (HALLMARK)
705512 PAYIN THE DUES (HALLMARK)
706402 ELVIS PRESLEY / ELVIS (HALLMARK)
706832 LOVING YOU / BEST OF ELVIS (HALLMARK)
706922 ROCK N ROLL VOL 2 (HALLMARK)
706982 ELVIS CHRISTMAS ALBUM (HALLMARK)
707292 KING CREOLE (HALLMARK)
707832 ELVIS (HALLMARK)
707892 A DATE WITH ELVIS (HALLMARK)
709142 FOR LP FANS ONLY (HALLMARK)
709932 GOLDEN RECORDS VOL 2 (HALLMARK)
709992 GI BLUES (HALLMARK)
710092 ELVIS IS BACK (HALLMARK)
710282 HIS HAND IN MINE (HALLMARK)
711312 BLUE HAWAII (HALLMARK)
711562 SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY
712772 POT LUCK (RELEASE DUE JAN 2013)
730652 COLLECTED (3CD BOX SET) (HALLMARK)

713514 LOVE SONGS (USA)
721837 ROCK N ROLL LEGEND (USA)

The recordings themselves have received mixed reviews and appear to be taken from original mono recordings and have not been enhanced , which makes them often seem flat when compared to enhanced or remastered stereo versions.
Overall a good basic budget copy of Elvis classics,

I can understand that original albums have their original tracklisting , but often have different covers.

But what on earth is Payin' His Dues ? Can anyone shed some light on this release ?

Pickwick has never been a subsidiary of RCA
