The Complete Elvis Presley Masters unbox photos

Post by elvissessions »

[ATTENTION: A SECOND SET IS IN A SUBSEQUENT POST]

Notes on the following. First of all, in almost all cases my terrible photographic abilities fail to do justice to the text and images.

I'm rather pleased with the fact that a lot of the textures of the set DO come through. I thought for sure I'd lose those.

And, yes, I know I DO need a manicure.

Also, stray hairs are primarily the fault of these two:

You are crazy, man! :D

Thanks for the pics, I simply enjoyed opening it (I actually let my wife unpack it, since I was at work but couldn't stand to wait any longer)...

Here's set 2 ...

Note on the following: As you'll see a couple of things happened as I went along. A) I began to get increasingly frustrated that my photos were failing to do the book justice ... and B) I bgan to get increasingly eager to start ENJOYING the set for myself. Consequently, there perhaps aren't as many photos of the book, as some would like. I didn't pick images or pages for any particular reason except that they caught my eye at the moment. Overall, besides my poor skills and unsteady hands, I'm not sure I do an accurate job of showing how much text there is in the book and what the ratio of text to photos is.

I have noticed something.

The CD goes from right to left.

16

17

and left

18
19

Normally it should be the inverse ???

Although it wouldn't bother me...won't some people have issue with the way the CDs are held in those pockets?

The disc order has to do with the way the pages fan out. ... It makes sense as you open the pages and work your way "deeper" into the book, but it may seem a bit counter-intuitive when you just look at one photo.

The cardboard pockets -- in my opinion -- are not a serious issue for a set of this sort, not in this day and age.

I just do not believe people should be listening to discs from a $750 set day to day ... That's me, some will disagree.

Whether folks choose to put them in jewel cases or return them to the sleeves for safekeeping, the reality in my opinion is that this box should be treated like computer CD-ROMs ... You download the software somewhere else for daily use; you don't keep using the program discs.

Yes, 20 years ago before we could transfer the music easily and safely, hell, I'd be afraid to even OWN these discs. But now, I feel I can archive this set very well. As I've stated in another thread, I changed my mind today and slipped the discs back into the cardboard sleeves. If all goes according to plan, I don't expect to remove them again.

My heirs can decide what to do with the discs themsleves when they inherit them ;)

I'm REALLY afraid of doing that...
I had some similar issues seven years ago with the Johnny Cash "Unearthed" box set...

damn.. just reading the last paragraph of Guralnick's essay... almost chokes me up.. about the music and what Elvis' message or mission was if you will. Just more evidence to backup my theory that Elvis' most personal and maybe greatest moment was his Jaycees speech.

I love the whole package, especially the book, which I'll keep close to hand. I've heard the first four discs and, because I already had the Franklin Mint set, and already arranged it chronologically onto discs, the great sound was no big surprise. But it is a wonderful thing, all around. I am very satisfied with my purchase. It is the Elvis Monolith.
