Great Idea on the vinyl!Tomek wrote:I like all of them, but I think "On Stage" is the one that I play the most.
Especially from vinyl.
Superb album. Now Ernst could release this one as a classic album on CD and vinyl.
This one I would surely get right away.

Re: Favorite Live Album
I can't choose between On Stage and Elvis In Person; so I'll opt for On Stage: Legacy Edition. Best of both worlds and it includes crackers like Funny How Time Slips Away and Reconsider Baby, probably my two most played songs on that set.

Re: Favorite Live Album
Since MSG and Elvis in Person are my two favorite albums released during Elvis lifetime I had to choose one of them.
This time I chose Elvis in Person. Last time we had a poll I chose MSG.
On stage is great aswell and if Long Tall Sally had been on the original album instead of Please relaese me, it might have got my vote.

And another (before my time) I wish I could have been at . . .
Most gorgeous bootleg ever produced.
It's a crime that this show was never filmed, but at least we have the audio.

"Live on Stage in Memphis" does not represent an award winning show. The performance of "How Great Thou Art", the best tracked live version we have, won an award.N880EP wrote:Blew me away when I first heard it as a kid and I still enjoy it immensely. Fantastic, award winning show.

Re: Favorite Live Album
True. Still, the original LP edit was a pretty solid representation of Elvis' mid-70's powers with some impressive vocal work.Matthew wrote:"Live on Stage in Memphis" does not represent an award winning show. HGTA = Best Inspirational Performance Grammy in 1974. Since it was performed at this show, it is indeed an award winning show.Matthew wrote:"Live on Stage in Memphis" does not represent an award winning show. PS - Btw, general question --> what's with all the nitpicking here on this MB??
Re: Favorite Live Album
Strange reasoning at best. The performance is award winning, not the entire concert, as enoyable as it is.N880EP wrote:HGTA = Best Inspirational Performance Grammy in 1974. Yes, your reasoning and your nitpicking, on an otherwise innocent and (supposed to be) fun topic.Matthew wrote:Strange reasoning at best.

Re: Favorite Live Album
It is not nitpicking to present truthful information. "Live on Stage in Memphis" did not win "Best Inspirational Performance", only "How Great Thou Art" did. To label the show an 'award winning show' is inaccurate. Newer fans read this board and could take your post as gospel.N880EP wrote:Yes, your reasoning and your nitpicking, on an otherwise innocent and (supposed to be) fun topic.Matthew wrote:Strange reasoning at best.

Yes, as a matter of fact, you are indeed wrong.Matthew wrote:Do you? You made an incorrect statement, and I corrected you. Is that wrong?N880EP wrote:Oh, I see what your problem is now.
My statement was not incorrect. You incorrectly interpreted my statement to mean something that you wanted it / or thought it to mean, so that you could correct me.
On that note, . . .
If it makes you feel better to think that you are right, then please do.

Back ON-TOPIC for me.
Yet another that gets my vote . . .
This one definitely should have been an "awarding winning show", too, btw.

Re: Favorite Live Album
Certainly, for the uninitiated, the '74 Memphis show should be remembered for its Grammy Award-winning "Best Inspirational Performance of "How Great Thou Art," one of three Gospel category winners at the March 1975 ceremonies.

Re: Favorite Live Album
On Stage! Has always been and will remain my favourite! Of those albums mentioned The Memphis concert was my second favourite during those years! When it comes to In Person it's actually only Johnny B. Goode, I Can't Stop Loving You, My Babe, Mystery Train/Tiger Man and Suspicious Minds that caught my ear and still do!
That said: I think we've had a bunch of great multitrack recorded live albums through FTD, TTWII special edition a.o that I really treasure.

Must be Memphis '74 for me. That version of "How Great Thou Art" is a killer, and the rest of the album is very great too.

Re: Favorite Live Album
I have given each one more than their share of spins over the years, but I have always had a soft spot for MSG. It was the second album I ever owned, and wore that out. Elvis's voice is smooooooth as silk at that show...
