SM (my favorite Elvis song and one of my favs of all time from any artist) reached #1 in November 1969. That was the same month that Brook Benton recorded another all-time fav of mine: "Rainy Night in Georgia." Brook Benton is not only one of my favorite singers of all time (I'm only 31 mind you) but he was one of Elvis' favs too. Elvis sang a one-liner from this song in the On Tour movie and allegedly was set to record this great tune, written by the same guy who wrote "Polk Salad Annie," in 1977. November 1969 was a great month!

Elvis loved Brook Benton, and met him in Dec 1957.

"Rainy Night In Georgia" would have been a superb song for Elvis, although Benton's recording is supreme.

He almost did ... he cut "It's A Matter Of Time" at RCA Hollywood in 1972.

Don't remind me! It'll be a matter of time before I listen to that song again. A lot of time.

IT'S A MATTER OF TIME was not actually the best choice for BURNING LOVE B-SIDE. After HOUND DOG / DON'T BE CRUEL in the 50's and LITTLE SISTER / HIS LATEST FLAME in the 60's, I wish BURNING LOVE had a better B-SIDE to do a third great Rock'n'Roll Single. Maybe MERRY CHRISTMAS BABY...

It's A Matter Of Time is one of my favourite 70's songs.A nice laid back vocal and some
good country guitar picking.
Ah well, each to his own eh.

It would have been part of a nice full album in 1972, if Elvis had continued as he did at RCA Hollywood in late March 1972. All the musicians recall how focused he was on his work. Even the production is nice -- no overblown backing vocals or inappropriate string overdubs, no over-singing by Elvis, everyone just delivers.

Yes Doc,it could have been a winner had he stayed focused on quality studio perfomances
but of course Elvis On Tour took over with rehearsals starting the day after the Burning Love sessions and he wouldn't get back in a studio until july the following year.

And what a single "Suspicious Minds" was too. Some cool songs in the charts at the time (boy, they sure don't have songs like this in the charts anymore) and this one by Elvis was to top them all!!! Good on Chips Moman who stood his ground and flatly refused to hand over his rights to the song to the Hill and Range people. Chips i salute you, amen.
