Im sure many of you own reel to reel tapes in your collection, but
how many of you out there actually own the players and play the
I have a late 60s model sony portable player that works very well,
along with 3 Elvis reels(Elvis Country,From Memphis To Vegas,
Elvis For Everyone/Paradise Hawaiian Style). The sound is excellent,
and while Im no expert on this,I think it compares
well to CD sound.
I have also read somewhere that record companys when making
these tapes would often use 1st generation tapes for the transfer.
They sound good enough for this to be true.
Any way I would like to correspond with anyone who is
also into reels.Thanks!!

My father in law keeps one at our beach house. He has hundreds of tapes, but no where to store them. Most of them are classical or old musicals and shows, though. Frankly, I think they sound great! Much clearer that vinyl. Of course, you have to wait for an hour for it to rewind. Boy, have CD's spoiled us or what!?

The original Watermark Elvis Story was in the form of vinyl 12' discs and not tape. As was AT TOP 40 etc. Thses were commercial programs so bands were on the discs to easily accomondate commercial/news drop ins etc. This would be difficult with tape and present all manner of cueing up problems.
Any tape on EBay would be a copy, probably off-air.
I have several AT40 volumes from 30 years ago.
Also remember that these radio programs were transcribed from regular record releases and not any "original source " tapes .
