Elvis songs that have ONLY ONE VERSION/VARIATION

#682077

Post by TONY »

There can't be many Elvis songs that we only have ONE single version of!! Many songs have alternate takes, alternate masters, multiple live versions, remixes, with / without overdubs etc. Can you name some?
A few that spring to mind are;
MY HAPPINESS
FOOL, FOOL, FOOL,
IT WOULDN'T BE THE SAME WITHOUT YOU
MAYBELLINE,
HOW'S THE WORLD TREATING YOU,
JUST BECAUSE
DANNY

I KNOW there are others, but I will leave it to you to enjoy the game!! And remember, there must not be any other version of the song in existence!!

Not correct, as "Don't think twice" has appeared in 3 different edits. "MERRY CHRISTMAS BABY" has appeared in different edits, mixes and even has strings overdubbed onto it on "This is Elvis". "TIGER MAN" has been used as a medley and on it's own during live performances!!
"I CAN HELP" has appeared without overdubs on both "Our memories of Elvis" and "Elvis today" FTD.
See, it's not as easy as you may have thought!!
There has to be no other variation released.

But isn't it still the same take and the only performance of these two by Elvis? It is. It's the edits/overdubs that make it appear as several "different" versions. That's why I would agree with The Welz on this one.

I don't agree, since Tony clearly states: There can't be many Elvis songs that we only have ONE single version of!! Many songs have alternate takes, alternate masters, multiple live versions, remixes, with / without overdubs etc.

Tony, are you talking official releases only? Or boots as well? I'd figure the first, right?

I think boots can be included too. I'm looking for songs that have absolutely no release anywhere without any variable. Two more;

Fun in Acapulco
(There’s) No Room to Rhumba in a Sports Car
A World of Our Own
Alright, Okay, You Win
You Can Have Her

If you go to a one of those two sites showing sessions (Keith’s and Oven’s), you can see for yourself what’s been done in one take and which songs exist in one version only.

The Double Features and FTD/original LP versions differ a bit. But it is derived from the same take, sure.

I'll hold you in my heart was included on the "Too much monkey business" CD (an FTD release featuring the original "Guitar man" overdubbed album with extra tracks)!!
There's no room to rhumba.... varies slightly in the actual movie!

I could nit pick at "Lady Madonna" as Elvis did sing a few bursts of this in Lake Tahoe during David Brigg's keyboard solos!!!! Plus, wasn't "Froggy went a courtin" edited on the 70's masters box set???!!

Hopeless!!!! Several bootleg versions exist of Elvis singing "Happy birthday" to various people. "My babe" was included on the 1980 'silver box set' and several other releases from different shows since.
"Let me be there" appears on many live albums, both FTD and bootleg and "Auld Lang Syne" has been sung twice by Elvis; in Pontiac on new years' eve '75 (released on a bootleg), and Pittsburgh, NYE '76 (now released on FTD).
You really must try better, Gal!!! :oops:
