Essential Audience Recorded Songs Unreleased by FTD
Wed Nov 30, 2011 2:34 am
Through the years we have gotten the odd audience recorded song and even concert through FTD and even BMG, but which of these low-fi songs which remain unreleased officially thusfar, merit inclusion in a future Elvis FTD release?
Some suggestions, either because of rarity factor and/or because of inherent quality despite the sound:
Tiger Man (a Rick Rennie recorded version August '70) Just Pretend (18-11-72) Memphis Tennessee (3-7-73) Raised On Rock (6-8-73 OS) Crying Time (12-8-73 MS) Bosom of Abraham (19-7-75 AS) You'll Never Walk Alone (19-7-75 ES) Suzy Q. (20-7-75 AS) Turn Around Look At Me (23-7-75) Return to Sender (24-7-75) When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again (10-12-75) Young and Beautiful (19-8-75 MS) Crying In The Chapel (19-8-75 DS) Return To Sender + Wooden Heart (9-5-76 CS) I Just Can't Help Believin' (2-12-76 OS) Reconsider Baby (11-12-76 MS) An American Trilogy (2-6-77 CS)
More ?
Would you like to see a compilation of the best of these tracks, or rather certain tracks tagged onto a regular soundboard release? Or complete audience recorded shows, which feature a certain rarity? Or maybe you think that none of the above merit inclusion at all on an FTD release?

I suppose some could end up on concert discs as bonus tracks.

On one hand there is the unceasing clamour for the perfect sound, on the other hand why release these sonically appalling audience recordings.
I would love to know how you "restore" these tracks. Restore to what.

To spell it out for you Kiwi...clean them up and make them sound better using up to date technology...the term restore was used loosely as it often is...sorry to confuse you with such a confusing term. Hope you aren't confused anymore.

I would love FTD to do a compilation of live material like this. Hope it happens.

It's A Matter Of Time - Vegas 73
I would add rare audience songs to soundboard show from same season/tour.

A compilation of tracks like this would make an interessting release and something I would gladly buy. What I won't buy is a soundboard with some of these tracks added as a bonus. Even though the sound on these recordings is lo-fi I think that they fit well on a collectors label like FTD.
Please make it happen Ernst!

Ernst is no big fan of audience recorded songs....i guess...but if he feels like putting out stuff like this..he surely knows how to get these tapes.... shouldn`t be a prob...

Hasn't "It's A Matter Of Time" already been released? Otherwise I can only think of "Such A Night" from December '76...

I'd be more than happy to purchase an FTD that features the same quality of recordings as the bonus songs found on the "I Found My Thrill" release. As much as I enjoy soundboard recordings, they do not capture the excitement of a live concert the way an excellent sounding audience recording does.
But that's just the way I am.

I'd much rather have a release like this than ANOTHER awfully mixed, poorly performed 1976/77 show with the SAME set list.

But See See Rider rocked in 1976. So why wouldn't you want another soundboard from that period?

Elvis was still opening with "See See Rider" in 1976? Man, that's so 1972.

Don't forget about Also Sprach Zarathustra!

Considering the crappy sound that some of the private material was in that we have bought, the sound quality of these recordings barely come into the equation. While I'm no fan of audience recordings, and I only tend to buy the soundboards which are good performances AND good sound, a compilation of sonically poor rarities would still be reasonably appealing.

That compilation has already been made a long time ago (by me). Actually already in 2000, more then ten years ago.

I have your CDRs and they make for great listening - if only FTD could source these excerpts for a similar officizl release.

Hello there,
Would there be any chance in me obtaining these on cd-r ? I'd be willing to pay for your time, costs and effort of course... Look like dynamite collections. I have some of them, but not nearly all.
cheers

If FTD were to do it, I'd hope they would choose only songs that were of good sound quality. Sure, there may be a few hundred rare songs from audience recordings out there, but how many of them actually sound good?
Anyone could put something like this out. I'd only want FTD to do it if they can put together something I could actually play for friends without them saying "why does it sound so bad".

Not only if they "sound good", but also if they are "complete". Alot of these "rare" live songs are usually one-liners.
